Honeywell Hut is just 50 minutes from popular Motueka, and just over 1 hour from Nelson. The hut is on route from the Abel Tasman National Park, heading towards the West Coast - which makes it the perfect stop-over accommodation for a road trip around the South Island.
Set on a large and dramatic sheep and beef farm, Honeywell Hut has all the style and feeling of a back country musterer's hut. The one room hut has been loving restored over the years by owners, Fiona and Richard, with a ton of creative, rustic charm. Recycled timber, rescued from the farm has been used in the detail, including old bridge and cattle yard timber. Locally milled macrocarpa timber lines the walls - infusing it with a warm and cosy atmosphere. A pot belly stove keeps you snug inside and an outdoor wood stove in the outdoor kitchen area heats all your water for showers and baths.
During the day, explore the farm. Fiona also offers full or half day horse trekking with her team of beautifully trained horses, along with a delicious picnic lunch. If four legs aren't your thing, use your own two. There are heaps of tracks to explore - either by foot or by mountain bike (you're welcome to bring your own). The farm backs on to the beautiful Kahurangi National park and you'll find stunning areas of native bush and hills with spectacular views over the district. Afterwards, take a dip in the cool, fresh swimming hole in the river just adjacent to the hut - and warm up for an evening soak in the steaming hot tub. The night sky is phenomenal at Honeywell Hut. Spot the constellations while soaking away your cares.

With the luxury campsite a 15 min walk down to a beautiful secluded beach, glamping at Lavericks Bay in the Banks Peninsula is something pretty special. Enjoy long, warm days swimming and playing in the soft sand on the safe beach. Bring your bikes and explore the farm tracks or take your kayak out for an afternoon... all followed up by a hearty camp cook-up at the end of the day.

A 10% deposit is charged during the booking process. The deposit is non-refundable, however it can be transferred to another booking made within a 12 month period, if your stay is cancelled more than 3 weeks prior to your arrival.
Rates and Extras
MINIMUM STAY PERIODS
Honeywell Hut has a standard minimum stay period of two nights. The minimum booking period for long weekends such as Labour Weekend, Anniversary Weekend etc is 3 nights. The minimum booking period for Easter is 4 nights.
The standard nightly rate is $200 per night for two people.
Extra people are $25 per person
Note: Honeywell Hut is closed May - August.
Half-day horse trek 9.30am - 1.30pm (includes lunch) - $200 per person
Full-day horse trek - 9.30am - 4pm (includes lunch) - $400 per person
HOW TO BOOK AND PAY
The quickest way to check availability and book is by using our online booking calendar. This is always up-to-date. Find the date that suits you, then click Book Now. You'll be taken through the booking process in a few easy steps.
During the booking process, you’ll be asked to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. Once you've completed the booking process and deposit payment, you'll receive a confirmation email. This explains how to pay the remainder of your balance, which is due 4 weeks prior to your arrival date. If you’ve booked within this timeframe, the full balance will be due straight away. We’ll provide bank account details for payment by Internet Banking deposit in the email, and we also provide a secure link so you can opt to pay by credit card. Credit card payments incur a 2.5% surcharge.

SLEEPING & BED ARRANGEMENT
Honeywell Hut is a single-room, musterer's style, timber hut. It has a queen-size bed bunks, and a single bed.
We think the Honeywell Hut best suits either a couple, a small group of friends (perfect for a girls weekend) or a family of up to 5.
Honeywell Hut is completely off-the-grid. Hot water is heated used a wood-fired water heater (requiring minimal attention) and cooking is supplied via LPG gas bottles. Solar power provides lighting and a pot belly stove provides warmth.
The hut bathroom facilities consist of an outdoor shower and bath heated by a the wood-fired heater and a flushing toilet situated a short walk (via a boardwalk) from the hut.
The hut kitchen has an inside gas oven and gas hob for cooking and a fridge provided for cool food storage. Outside is a wood-fired oven for cooking. There is bench space for food preparation and hot water for dishes.
Spark mobile phone reception is available.
Full linen, towels and bedding is supplied. Queen beds are made up with 100% cotton linen. All beds have either wool or feather duvets.
WHAT TO BRING
- Food and drink - make sure you bring all the food and drink you need for your stay, including tea, coffee, cooking oil etc.
- Walking shoes or boots for exploring the property.
- Togs and towels for swimming in the river, 20 metres from the hut.
- Warm clothes - it can be very chilly in the mornings and at night when star-gazing. A warm jersey and long pants are a must.
- Shower and bath toiletries - don’t forget your eco-friendly bubble bath if you’re partial to froth in your outdoor bath!
- Insect repellent and sunscreen - A must have!
The property is a large, bush-clad, farm property, so it’s very important to follow the safety guidelines and terms that you’ll find in our booking terms and in your guide found inside the hut.
Eating and Drinking
Honeywell Hut is self-catering. Just bring your own food and chilly-bin, and cook meals using the kitchen facilities provided in your camp kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.
If you want a break from cooking at any stage, Motueka with all it's restaurants and cafes is just a 50 minute drive away.
A supermarket for restocking supplies, can be found at Motueka (50 minutes drive).
Things To Do

1. Booking and payments
1.1 A deposit of 10% is required to confirm your booking and secure the property. This will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking. A 2.75% credit card payment surcharge will be applied to this payment.
1.2 On receipt of the deposit, you will receive an email confirming both the payment and your booking details.
1.3 The remaining balance will be due 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date. An email reminder will be sent to you 3 days prior to this date, where an outstanding balance remains. The reminder email gives you the option to pay the remaining balance by internet banking or, if your internet banking payment has not been received within 48 hours, the remaining balance will automatically be charged to the credit card used at the time of booking. Please note: a 2.5% credit card payment surcharge is applied to all payments made by credit card. Credit card data is held in a secure and encrypted environment.
1.4 Bookings made within 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date will be charged the full balance at the time of booking (this may be processed in two payments).
1.5 If you are unable to pay the balance before the stated due date, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking will be cancelled.
1.6 Bookings made online within 48 hours of arrival will not be confirmed immediately. Once the campsite has agreed that the booking can be honoured, the guest will be informed by Canopy Camping Escapes and the credit card used for the online booking will be charged the full balance of the stay (note that there is a 2.5% credit card fee).
2. Cancellation and severe weather warnings
2.1 Some campsites may have limitations due to weather. If severe weather is forecast we will call you as soon as possible prior to your scheduled arrival date to advise you and cancel your booking. You can choose whether to defer your holiday to a later date subject to availability or receive a full refund.
2.2 Your 10% deposit is non-refundable, however it can be transferred to another booking made within a 12 month period, if your stay is cancelled more than 3 weeks prior to your arrival.
2.3 Cancellation by you within 4-21 days of your arrival date will result in 50% of the total cost of your stay being charged. Cancellation within 3 days of your arrival date will result in 100% of the total cost of your stay being charged.
3. Safety and Hazards
3.1 Campsites are often situated on working farms and there are hazards both natural and man-made. You accept that you enter the property at your own risk to participate in a glamping holiday.
3.2 Participation in activities such as, outdoor baths, climbing trees, walking on the property and any other activity on the property is the responsibility of the Guest and is done so at their own risk.
3.3 Canopy Camping Escapes accept no liability for accident, loss of property or personal injury whilst on your stay.
No pets allowed. Campsites are often situated on working farms, and therefore are not suitable for visiting pets.
GST of 15% (where applicable) is included in the daily per night cost. A GST invoice will be supplied if requested.
6. The Holiday – Guest Conditions of occupancy and Conduct
6.1 The Guests have the right to occupy the Property for the paid holiday period only.
6.2 Guests are required to observe the rules and familiarise themselves with the procedures contained in the information folder provided in the tent.
6.3 Guests shall take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its furniture, fittings and effects in or on the property and leave them in the same state of repair, condition, cleanliness and tidiness as at the commencement of the rental period.
6.4 Guests are required to inform the owner of any damage or breakage in or around the property promptly so that it can be repaired and replaced for the next guests. Guests are bound to reimburse the owners for replacement, repair or extra cleaning costs where reasonably demanded by the owners for damage caused by the guests.
6.5 Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.
6.6 Guests undertake to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period. Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner in consulation with Canopy Camping Escapes.
7. Authority to Sign
The person who completes the Booking Form certifies that: he or she is authorised to agree the Booking Conditions on behalf of all persons included in the Booking Form, including those substituted or added at a later date; the signatory is over eighteen years of age; they agree to take responsibility for the party occupying the Property, and to notify Canopy Camping Escapes if they are not a member of the holiday party.

"Honeywell hut was beautiful. Such a lovely spot. It was peaceful and idyllic and a perfect location for some much needed R and R. We had planned to do some day trips to nearby beautiful Abel Tasman but The moment we arrived we decided we would not be leaving and there really was no need. We had beautiful walks on our doorstep anyway. We barely came across another person for the whole weekend, other than Richard and Fiona, who were awesome and made us feel very welcomed. The surprise bonus for me was the pretty little River and fire area just a stones throw from the cabin. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the fire area but I imagine it would be pretty cool place to sit with a beer of an evening. We did get in a couple of the dips in the Baton river, which is apparently the third cleanest river in New Zealand. i'd love to see number one and two as I can't imagine a cleaner river. Although it was bloody freezing it was perfect for cooling us down after a long walk. Our little girl (11 monyhs) even dipped her feet and didn't complain anywhere near as much as her dad!! Haha. The hut itself was cute and cozy and had everything we needed. All in all a pretty good stay. If it wasn't so far away for us we'd definitely come back. Big thumbs up to this place."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Honeywell Hut. The hut itself is very comfortable with everything you need. Shower or bath under the stars, comfy beds and a pot belly stove or fire pit by the river to keep warm. The location is stunning, it really is off the beaten track with mountain ranges and river at your doorstep. We enjoyed all the outdoor activities including walking, swimming in the river and mountain biking. A great place to switch off from everything. Thank you to our lovely hosts Fiona and Richard."
