Kahikatea Farm is a stunning farm and bush block, just outside of Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty. It's a 3.5 hour drive from Auckland, and approximately one hour from Rotorua and Tauranga.
The campsite at Kahikatea Farm is set on an elevated spot amongst the pristine bush on the farm, surrounded by mature manuka trees. It consists of a lotus belle glamping tent and three small timber huts. The tent forms a luxurious master bedroom complete with king sized bed, deluxe linen and comfortable lounging furniture. Each of the huts house the facilities for the campsite - a kitchen and dining hut, a bathroom hut, and finally a lounging or 'second bedroom' hut, depending on requirements. The entire site is only ever booked by one group at a time, so you'll have the whole place to yourself.
There's lots to do on the property and in the surrounding area. A 30-40 minute loop bush walk from the campsite, takes you through some of the most beautiful New Zealand bush we've seen. Walk past huge kahikatea trees and groves of nikau palms. Native birds abound. Spend time enjoying the view over the Bay of Plenty and Te Urewera National Park from the deep outdoor bath at the campsite - big enough for two! The local area also offers thermal hot pools at the Awakeri Hot Springs, just 10 minute drive away.
Kahikatea Farm is a 20 minute drive from the beautiful Ohope beach and Ohiwa Harbour area. Stylish shops, cafes, restaurants can be found in the attractive township of Whakatane, just a 15 minute drive away.

Kissing Gate is nestled on a 7 acre farmlet, set amongst a glade beside a pond, surrounded by peaceful countryside. Based in the beautiful Mapua district, its just 30 minutes from the centre of Nelson and 16 minutes to Motueka. The campsite is made up of two vintage caravans, Ruby and Pearl, and a settlers' cottage style bathroom and kitchen.

Honeywell Hut is just 50 minutes from popular Motueka, and just over 1 hour from Nelson. Set on a large and dramatic sheep and beef farm, Honeywell Hut has all the style of a back country musterer's hut. The one room hut has been loving restored over the years by owners, Fiona and Richard, with a ton of creative, rustic charm.

With the luxury campsite a 15 min walk down to a beautiful secluded beach, glamping at Lavericks Bay in the Banks Peninsula is something pretty special. Bring your bikes and explore the farm tracks or take your kayak out for an afternoon... all followed up by a hearty camp cook-up at the end of the day.

A 10% deposit is charged during the booking process. The deposit is non-refundable, however it can be transferred to another booking made within a 12 month period, if your stay is cancelled more than 3 weeks prior to your arrival.
Rates and Extras
MINIMUM STAY PERIODS
Kahikatea Farm has a standard minimum stay period of two nights for weekends, but does allow stays of one night for midweek nights (Sunday - Thursday) outside of the main holiday period (20 December - 31 January). The minimum booking period for long weekends such as Labour Weekend, Anniversary Weekend etc is 3 nights. The minimum booking period for Easter is 4 nights.
The standard nightly rate is $275 for up to two people.
Extra adults are $50 per person, per night and extra children are $25 per person, per night.
Note: Kahikatea Farm cannot accommodate children under 5 years of age due to water and other safety hazards on the property.
HOW TO BOOK AND PAY
The quickest way to check availability and book is by using our online booking calendar. This is always up-to-date. Find the date that suits you, then click Book Now. You'll be taken through the booking process in a few easy steps.
During the booking process, you’ll be asked to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. Once you've completed the booking process and deposit payment, you'll receive a confirmation email. This explains how to pay the remainder of your balance, which is due 4 weeks prior to your arrival date. If you’ve booked within this timeframe, the full balance will be due straight away. We’ll provide bank account details for payment by Internet Banking deposit in the email, and we also provide a secure link so you can opt to pay by credit card. Credit card payments incur a 2.5% surcharge.

Guests can drive right up to the campsite for easy loading and unloading.

The campsite consists of a lotus belle tent as a master bedroom, with three small timber huts containing the kitchen/dining area, bathroom and lounge/second bedroom. The huts and tent have mains power. LPG bottles and a gas califont provide hot water.
- The bathroom hut includes a flushing toilet, sink and beautiful glass shower - connecting you to the bush outside. An outdoor bath with running hot water is situated a short distance from the bathroom hut.
- The kitchen has a bench and sink, small fridge/freezer, double ring induction hob and microwave and all the equipment you need for cooking. An indoor and outdoor dining option is provided.
- Pantry basics supplied - oil, vinegar, salt and pepper and coffee and tea.
- A weber BBQ is supplied.
- Heaters are provided in colder weather and a mini-ironing board, iron and hairdryer are supplied.
- There is mobile phone reception at the campsite, but no wifi. There is a place to charge devices at the site.
TENT SLEEPING & BED ARRANGEMENT
The luxury tent has a king sized bed and the lounge hut has a wood futon with a latex mattress which opens out to a king sized bed. 100% cotton linen, wool duvets and pillows, bathrobes and towels are supplied.
WHAT TO BRING
- Food and drink - make sure you bring all the food and drink you need for your stay
- Walking shoes - if you'd like to go for a walk on the property
- Warm clothes for star-gazing
- Shower and bath toiletries
- Insect repellent and Sunscreen - a must have!
- Towels for swimming - bring some spare beach towels for swimming in the ocean.
It’s very important to follow the safety guidelines and terms that you’ll find in our booking terms and in your campsite welcome guide. These terms and guidelines include:
- Visitors to the property stay at their own risk. This is a working farm and has machinery and tools that may cause injury.
- Please use caution when using the drive to and from the property and the campsite - drive slowly.
- Leave gates as you find them and avoid electric fences.
- Animals are unpredicatable - best to avoid them.
- Supervise young children carefully. There are also other specific water hazards for young children, such as troughs.
- There are some bait stations throughout the QE II reserve and throughout the bush on the property.
- For your own safety please do not touch any farm machinery, and do not enter any other buildings on the property.
Kahikatea Farm is just under 2.5 hours from Hamilton, approximately 1 hour from Tauranga and Rotorua, and a 3.5 hour drive from Auckland.

Eating and Drinking
The campsite at Kahikatea Farm is self-catering. Just bring your own food, and cook meals using the BBQ and facilities provided in your private camp kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.
If you want a break from cooking at any stage, Whakatane is just a 15 minute drive away, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

THINGS TO DO
On the property:
- Soak in the outdoor bath - relax and enjoy the view of Te Urewera National Park - 'gateway to the valley of the mist'
- Do the 30 - 40 minute bush walk on Kahikatea Farm, featuring one of New Zealand's tallest native trees (a Kahikatea tree that is 60 metres high!). At night, you'll see glow worms throughout the bush walk.
- Walk through the spectacular QE II reserve adjoining the property
- Battle it out over a game - cards, outdoor darts, Boggle, Trivial Pursuits are supplied
- Awake to birdsong and look out for Tui, Ruru, Kereru and Piwakawaka
- Meet the farm animals!

- Soak in the thermal hot springs at the Awakeri Hot Springs - a 10 minute drive away
- Do the Awakeri Rail Ride - a 5 minute drive away
- In nearby Whakatane (a 15 minute drive away) you'll find a golf course, cafes, bars and restaurants

- Visit the Tarawera Falls - a spectacular bush walk and waterfall - a one hour drive away.
Alan and Merle Brabant are the owners of Kahikatea Farm. They have a 20 hectare property, mainly bush, including QE II protected reserve. They have been on a baiting programme with the regional council to protect the bird life and native flora and fauna. Alan and Merle want to share their unique and beautiful forest with others and have developed their property to do so!
1. Booking and payments
1.1 A deposit of 10% is required to confirm your booking and secure the property. This will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking. A 2.5% credit card payment surcharge will be applied to this payment.
1.2 On receipt of the deposit, you will receive an email confirming both the payment and your booking details.
1.3 The remaining balance will be due 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date. An email reminder will be sent to you 3 days prior to this date, where an outstanding balance remains. The reminder email gives you the option to pay the remaining balance by internet banking or, if your internet banking payment has not been received within 48 hours, the remaining balance will automatically be charged to the credit card used at the time of booking. Please note: a 2.5% credit card payment surcharge is applied to all payments made by credit card. Credit card data is held in a secure and encrypted environment.
1.4 Bookings made within 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date will be charged the full balance at the time of booking (this may be processed in two payments).
1.5 If you are unable to pay the balance before the stated due date, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking will be cancelled.
1.6 Bookings made online within 48 hours of arrival will not be confirmed immediately. Once the campsite has agreed that the booking can be honoured, the guest will be informed by Canopy Camping Escapes and the credit card used for the online booking will be charged the full balance of the stay (note that there is a 2.5% credit card fee).
2. Cancellation and severe weather warnings
2.1 Some campsites may have limitations due to weather. If severe weather is forecast we will call you as soon as possible prior to your scheduled arrival date to advise you and cancel your booking. You can choose whether to defer your holiday to a later date subject to availability or receive a full refund.
2.2 Your 10% deposit is non-refundable, however it can be transferred to another booking made within a 12 month period, if your stay is cancelled more than 3 weeks prior to your arrival.
2.3 Cancellation by you within 4-21 days of your arrival date will result in 50% of the total cost of your stay being charged. Cancellation within 3 days of your arrival date will result in 100% of the total cost of your stay being charged.
3. Safety and Hazards
3.1 Campsites are often situated on working farms and there are hazards both natural and man-made. You accept that you enter the property at your own risk to participate in a glamping holiday.
3.2 Participation in activities such as, outdoor baths, climbing trees, walking on the property and any other activity on the property is the responsibility of the Guest and is done so at their own risk.
3.3 Canopy Camping Escapes accept no liability for accident, loss of property or personal injury whilst on your stay.
No pets allowed. Campsites are often situated on working farms, and therefore are not suitable for visiting pets.
GST of 15% (where applicable) is included in the daily per night cost. A GST invoice will be supplied if requested.
6. The Holiday – Guest Conditions of occupancy and Conduct
6.1 The Guests have the right to occupy the Property for the paid holiday period only.
6.2 Guests are required to observe the rules and familiarise themselves with the procedures contained in the information folder provided in the tent.
6.3 Guests shall take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its furniture, fittings and effects in or on the property and leave them in the same state of repair, condition, cleanliness and tidiness as at the commencement of the rental period.
6.4 Guests are required to inform the owner of any damage or breakage in or around the property promptly so that it can be repaired and replaced for the next guests. Guests are bound to reimburse the owners for replacement, repair or extra cleaning costs where reasonably demanded by the owners for damage caused by the guests.
6.5 Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.
6.6 Guests undertake to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period. Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner in consultation with Canopy Camping Escapes.
7. Authority to Sign
The person who completes the Booking Form certifies that: he or she is authorised to agree the Booking Conditions on behalf of all persons included in the Booking Form, including those substituted or added at a later date; the signatory is over eighteen years of age; they agree to take responsibility for the party occupying the Property, and to notify Canopy Camping Escapes if they are not a member of the holiday party.
