We think there's demand for stylish and appealing glamping accommodation in a campground setting. The feedback was great last year, so we're giving it a go again this summer!
Maggie is our beautifully decorated, roomy and comfortable 1972 Crusader caravan. From 20 December 2016, she'll be available to rent at the iconic Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park, 35 minutes from the Bay of Plenty summer hub, Ohope.
The idea is that if you book Maggie, you'll be able to just turn up and enjoy her. All the stuff you need for a comfortable camping holiday is provided. You'll just need to pack like you're going on a beach bach holiday, add some bath towels with your beach towels and throw in an extra chilly bin stuffed with provisions. Everything else will be provided.
Maggie has one large cafe seating area that converts to a very large (bigger than super king-size) bed, and a second seating area that converts to a small double. With gas heating, Maggie is warm and toasty - even in the middle of winter. Plenty of windows keep the space inside, light, bright and airy on hot days.
Maggie has no kitchen facilities inside, but she does come with her own Weber BBQ, kitchen equipment, and all the accessories you need for comfortable camping.
As well as being located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, the immediate area has plenty to keep you busy, including water sports on the scenic Ohiwa harbour, amazing bush walks, the Motu Trails Cycle Trail and even a nearby glow worm grotto. Parents will be pleasantly surprised and delighted to learn that during the peak summer period, Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park also runs a kids holiday programme (woohoo!).
Maunga Iti, Tutukaka Coast
Maunga Iti, meaning 'little hills' in Maori, is a large bush block just inland from the stunning Tutukaka coastline. At an easy 2 1/4 hour drive from Auckland, this delectable slice of kiwi paradise makes the perfect escape for weary city folk looking to recharge and relax. Perfect for couples, the luxury tent sits on a hill with a dreamy view overlooking bush and ocean.
Highfield Forest Retreat, Kauri Coast
The campsite at Highfield Forest Retreat is set in a dappled glade, in mature native forest on the edge of Highfield Farm. The site features a luxury tent, beautiful kauri hut and an outdoor bath in a rocky grotto, nestled amongst the bush and fern covered ground. Just 2.5 hours from Auckland, it makes a great weekend glamping escape.

Tuki Tuki Valley, Hawke's Bay

River's Edge Retreat, Martinborough
Just 10 minutes from popular Wairarapa holiday town, Martinborough, River's Edge makes the ideal place for a couples escape. The luxury tent is set on the edge of a quiet, tree-lined river that runs through a pretty farm property. The front of the tent has a large glass door frontage, which offers a beautiful river-side view.
Fossickers Hut, Marlborough
Fossickers Hut is situated near small, historic, gold-mining town, Canvastown, on the main route to Nelson from either Picton or Blenhiem. The pioneer-style hut is tucked into native bush, perched on a bluff above the serene Wakamarina River. An old coal range in the lean-to kitchen, and outdoor, fire-heated bath, add to the historic vibe.
Kissing Gate, Nelson
Kissing Gate is nestled on a 7 acre farmlet, set amongst a glade beside a pond, surrounded by peaceful countryside. Based in the beautiful Mapua district, its just 30 minutes from the centre of Nelson and 16 minutes to Motueka. The campsite is made up of two vintage caravans, Ruby and Pearl, and a settlers' cottage style bathroom and kitchen.
Honeywell Hut, Motueka
Honeywell Hut is just 50 minutes from popular Motueka, and just over 1 hour from Nelson. Set on a large and dramatic sheep and beef farm, Honeywell Hut has all the style of a back country musterer's hut. The one room hut has been loving restored over the years by owners, Fiona and Richard, with a ton of creative, rustic charm.
Camp Kekerengu, Kaikoura Coast
Camp Kekerengu is set on the majestic Kaikoura Coast, sheep and beef farm, Ngaio Downs. Situated three hours from Christchurch, half way between Blenheim and Kaikoura, you'll feel a million miles from anywhere as you gaze out to the ocean from your luxury tent. With three large tents, sleeping up to 11, this is the perfect campsite for groups.
The Hexagon, West Coast
The Hexagon is an off-the-grid rustic hut, originally built by an astrologer over 30 years ago. Native timber planks line the walls and ceiling and hand-made stained glass windows offer stunning views of the ocean, coastline and bush surrounds. Just 10 minutes from the famous 'Pancake Rocks', The Hexagon is the perfect place to stop and rest on your way up or down the wild West Coast.
Hurunui Jacks, West Coast
Hurunui Jacks is a magical property on the South Island's West Coast. Surrounded by virgin native bush and bordering the pretty Kaniere River, glampers will find plenty to do and see. Go trout fishing on the lake, enjoy some delicious whitebait fritters - and savour absolute peace in an outdoor bath under the stars. Hurunui Jacks is situated right on the West Coast Wilderness cycle trail.
Lavericks Bay, Banks Peninsula
With the luxury campsite a 15 min walk down to a beautiful secluded beach, glamping at Lavericks Bay in the Banks Peninsula is something pretty special. Enjoy long, warm days swimming and playing in the soft sand on the safe beach. Bring your bikes and explore the farm tracks or take your kayak out for an afternoon... all followed up by a hearty camp cook-up at the end of the day.

A 10% deposit is charged during the booking process. The deposit is non-refundable, however it can be transferred to another booking made within a 12 month period, if your stay is cancelled more than 2 weeks prior to your arrival.
Rates and Extras
MINIMUM STAY PERIODS
Maggie the Caravan at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park has a standard minimum stay period of six nights for peak period and 3 nights for off-peak period.
1 December to 30 April:
The standard nightly rate for the period is $170 for up to two adults and two children.
Pricing includes the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park charge.
The minimum stay period during the school holiday period from 20 December to 31 January is 7 nights. The minimum stay period outside of the school holiday period is 3 nights.
Please note that a bond of $200 will be required when you rent Maggie. This will be refunded in full after your stay, provided Maggie is left in the same lovely, neat and tidy state as you found her.
HOW TO BOOK AND PAY
The quickest way to check availability and book is by using our online booking calendar. This is always up-to-date. Find the date that suits you, then click Book Now. You'll be taken through the booking process in a few easy steps.
During the booking process, you’ll be asked to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. Once you've completed the booking process and deposit payment, you'll receive a confirmation email. This explains how to pay the remainder of your balance, which is due 4 weeks prior to your arrival date. If you’ve booked within this timeframe, the full balance will be due straight away. We’ll provide bank account details for payment by Internet Banking deposit in the email, and we also provide a secure link so you can opt to pay by credit card. Credit card payments incur a 2.5% surcharge.

Maggie is situated at the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park, 35 minutes from Ohope Beach in the sunny Bay of Plenty. The Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park was carefully selected by us as Maggie's summer destination based on personal recommendations and glowing Trip Advisor reviews. During the peak holiday period she will have a prime beach front position and outside of peak period she will always be located in one of the top holiday park spots.
CHECK IN & CHECK OUT
Check-in is between 1pm - 6pm.
Check-out is by 10am on the day of departure.
When you arrive at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park, you'll check in to reception, be given a key for Maggie and shown where Maggie is located on the campground map. Maggie will be waiting for you on site, with all her accessories neatly packed away inside. You'll need to unpack her, put up her sun awning and set her up for your stay. You'll find instructions in the caravan, but it should all be very simple. If you need a hand you'll find plenty of friendly support from your neighbouring campers (such is the friendly vibe of summer campground camping!).
Maggie comes with everything you need for a comfortable camping experience:
- Duvets, sheets and bedding (although we do recommend bring sleeping bags for kids!)

SLEEPING & BED ARRANGEMENT
Maggie has one large cafe seating area that converts to a very large (bigger than super king-size) bed, and a second seating area that converts to a small double where two smallish children can easily top and tail. If you have older children, consider bringing a pup tent if you have one to give yourselves a bit more space.
100% cotton linen and wool duvets are supplied but we do recommend bringing sleeping bags for kids!
WHAT TO BRING
- Food and drink - make sure you bring all the food and drink you need for your stay
- An extra chilly-bin if you're staying for longer than a few days.
- Warm clothes - it can be chilly in the mornings and at night. A warm jersey and long pants are a must.
- Shower and bath toiletries
- Insect repellent and Sunscreen - a must have!
- Towels and facecloths for showers and for swimming - bring some spare beach towels for taking off the property to swim.
- Tea towels for dishes
- Sleeping bags for kids! A duvet is provided if you don't have sleeping bags.
PARK INFORMATION, SAFETY AND RULES
Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park have visitor conditions that guests and visitors to the park need to adhere to. Please read these carefully before booking your stay so you know what to expect when you get there.

Eating and Drinking
Just bring your own food and chilly-bin and cook your meals using the facilities provided using the cooking facilities provided with Maggie or the Ohiwa Beach camp kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need with Maggie.
A supermarket for supplies can be found in Opotiki - an 18 minute drive from Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park.

1. Booking and payments
1.1 A deposit of 10% is required to confirm your booking and secure the property. This will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking. A 2.5% credit card payment surcharge will be applied to this payment.
1.2 On receipt of the deposit, you will receive an email confirming both the payment and your booking details.
1.3 The remaining balance will be due 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date. An email reminder will be sent to you 3 days prior to this date, where an outstanding balance remains. The reminder email gives you the option to pay the remaining balance by internet banking or, if your internet banking payment has not been received within 48 hours, the remaining balance will automatically be charged to the credit card used at the time of booking. Please note: a 2.5% credit card payment surcharge is applied to all payments made by credit card. Credit card data is held in a secure and encrypted environment.
1.4 Bookings made within 4 weeks in advance of your arrival date will be charged the full balance at the time of booking (this may be processed in two payments).
1.5 If you are unable to pay the balance before the stated due date, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking will be cancelled.
1.6 Bookings made online within 48 hours of arrival will not be confirmed immediately. Once the campsite has agreed that the booking can be honoured, the guest will be informed by Canopy Camping Escapes and the credit card used for the online booking will be charged the full balance of the stay (note that there is a 2.5% credit card fee).
2. Cancellation and severe weather warnings
2.1 Some campsites may have limitations due to weather. If severe weather is forecast we will call you as soon as possible prior to your scheduled arrival date to advise you and cancel your booking. You can choose whether to defer your holiday to a later date subject to availability or receive a full refund.
2.2 Cancellation by you within 14-28 days of your arrival date, will result in your deposit (10%) being forfeited. Cancellation by you within 4-13 days of your arrival date will result in 50% of the total cost of your stay being charged. Cancellation within 3 days of your arrival date will result in 100% of the total cost of your stay being charged.
3. Safety and Hazards
3.1 Campsites are often situated on working farms and there are hazards both natural and man-made. You accept that you enter the property at your own risk to participate in a glamping holiday.
3.2 Participation in activities such as, outdoor baths, climbing trees, walking on the property and any other activity on the property is the responsibility of the Guest and is done so at their own risk.
3.3 Canopy Camping Escapes accept no liability for accident, loss of property or personal injury whilst on your stay.
No pets allowed. Campsites are often situated on working farms, and therefore are not suitable for visiting pets.
GST of 15% (where applicable) is included in the daily per night cost. A GST invoice will be supplied if requested.
6. The Holiday – Guest Conditions of occupancy and Conduct
6.1 The Guests have the right to occupy the Property for the paid holiday period only.
6.2 Guests are required to observe the rules and familiarise themselves with the procedures contained in the information folder provided in the tent.
6.3 Guests shall take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its furniture, fittings and effects in or on the property and leave them in the same state of repair, condition, cleanliness and tidiness as at the commencement of the rental period.
6.4 Guests are required to inform the owner of any damage or breakage in or around the property promptly so that it can be repaired and replaced for the next guests. Guests are bound to reimburse the owners for replacement, repair or extra cleaning costs where reasonably demanded by the owners for damage caused by the guests.
6.5 Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.
6.6 Guests undertake to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period. Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner in consulation with Canopy Camping Escapes.
13. Authority to Sign
The person who completes the Booking Form certifies that: he or she is authorised to agree the Booking Conditions on behalf of all persons included in the Booking Form, including those substituted or added at a later date; the signatory is over eighteen years of age; they agree to take responsibility for the party occupying the Property, and to notify Canopy Camping Escapes if they are not a member of the holiday party.
