The Cob Cottage

The Cob Cottage

Tauranga

The Cob Cottage is situated 30 minutes from Tauranga and 20 minutes from Welcome Bay and Te Puke.

This charming, organic building, was lovingly created over two years by owners, Tess and Marco. Along with a team of helpers, the cottage was made using a mix of clay, sand and straw. This ancient and completely natural method of building is called 'cob'. It has incredible thermal properties - soaking up sunlight in the walls during the day, and slowing releasing the heat. This keeps the inside of the building warm in the winter, and cool in the summer.

The Cob Cottage is the camp 'bedroom', and contains a comfortable queen size bed. Completing the campsite, is an equally creative, hand built outdoor kitchen and bathroom, set just a few steps from the cottage.

As well as a short bush walk on the property, the campsite is right next door to the scenic Summerhill Golf course. In one minute, you can be through the gate and walking on the beautiful course, with its majestic, mature trees and serene, undulating terrain.

Set high on the Papamoa Hills, the views from the campsite are stunning. You can see all the way out to Tauranga harbour... the lights twinkling in the distance at night.

A stay at the Cob Cottage is a really special form of glamping... Living and sleeping in a breathable, natural space is rejuvenating and healing. Add to that, the outdoor living, beautiful countryside, and views... this is absolutely 'food for the soul'.

Marco and Tess had been searching for a piece of land to develop their permaculture dreams for a few years. When they found this piece of land they felt instantly at home. With a clean slate they have been slowly developing vegetable gardens, an orchard and the beautiful Cob Cottage.

Marco and Tess both work on their family run business called Crafty Gatherer. They make products to help people to live more simply, and get back to basics. You can check out their handcrafted goodies here.

They live on the property with their three children Tahl, Jai and Odi, Marco’s dad Don, the dog, Toko, cat, Smudge, 20 or so chickens and their beloved cows.

The Cob Cottage has literally had so much love and energy put into it - with many hands helping to create its magic. Marco and Tess are so excited to be able to share it with others.
