  • Things to do

Puna Tiny Home is a great place to unplug, relax and soak up the beautiful rural views. Curl up with a good book or battle it out over a board game. A petanque set is supplied for some slightly more physical competition!

A hike to the top of the farm (approx 45 minutes -1 hour walk) will give you outstanding views of Thames/Coromandel and North Waikato. Alternatively, head down to the creek and feed the eels.

At the weekends the Waipuna Valley Cricket Club may be playing which is a 5-minute walk from the tinyhouse.

If you're a keen walker, you'll be spoilt for choice with walks in the local area. Try a hike into the Hapuakohe Ranges, Pukemoremore Bush Reserve, Mt William, Hunua Falls, or Hakarimata Ranges.

Golfers, bring your clubs and bikers, bring your bikes! The Waikare and Waiterimu Golf Clubs are within 20 minutes drive and the Miranda and Karangahake cycling trails are close by too.

  • Your hosts

Your hosts at Puna Tiny Home are Carl, Fi, their daughter Maggie and Jack Russell, Kingi.

Puna farm was purchased by Fi's Great-Grandfather in 1942 from Australia. A farm manager was employed to run the farm until Fi's mother, Julie, and father, Richard, made the journey over the ditch as newlyweds in 1984.

Carl and Fi moved on to the family farm in 2017 after they were married when the opportunity arose for Carl to learn and work on the farm. Carl is both a sheep and beef farmer and part-time intermediate teacher. He also started the Waipuna Valley Cricket Club which hosts many games over the summer. Fi is both a stay-at-home mum for daughter Maggie and an artist (she studied at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design)

Both Fi and Carl have enjoyed nights away glamping and loved the experience. It sparked an idea to create a similar experience on Puna Farm - and thus, Puna Tiny Home was born.

The name 'Puna Tiny Home' comes from the name of the property Puna. Puna means 'water from a source/spring' in Maori. There are many freshwater springs on the farm that feed into the Waipuna Valley Stream.

Our stay at the Puna Tiny Home was an absolute delight! The surroundings were not only stunning and secluded, but our host's warm welcome added an extra layer of charm. The tiny home itself was a treasure trove of amenities, including a jaw-dropping outdoor bath that offered views beyond words. Cosiness enveloped us inside, providing a snug retreat, and our mornings were graced with the exquisite flavour of Raglan coffee. It truly was a home away from home, and we can't express our gratitude enough for this unforgettable experience. Thank you for hosting us, and we eagerly anticipate our next visit!
