Lavericks Bay - Beach Cabin

Lavericks Bay - Beach Cabin

Banks Peninsula

Lavericks Bay is on Banks Peninsula, just under two hours from Christchurch and 35 minutes from Akaroa.

Rich in history, the scenic bay is set on a 1000 hectare sheep and beef farm, which has been in the same family since the 1850s.

Lavericks Bay Beach Cabin is steps away from Lavericks Bay Beach. The cabin has two bedrooms, with the bedding arrangement ideal for either two couples travelling together or a family of up to 5.

The large deck makes it perfect for outdoor living. A hot tub on the Northeasten corner means this beach escape is perfect for Summer or Winter.

The cabin has been thoughtfully renovated with an eco-conscience. Wool insulation, natural latex and merino wool beds and organic cotton linen are just some of the environmentally-friendly choices your hosts have made. They are passionate about supporting New Zealand businesses so you'll see plenty of other stylish Kiwi furnishings and products featured too.

The beach cabin is slightly elevated, with a stunning view out over the beach and bay. The isolation is a highlight of this incredible place... While there are a handful of others living and staying on the property, it's likely you'll have the beach all to yourselves... spot the seals and dolphins that visit the bay while you're sipping your evening drink in the sun, to the background sound of the birds and the waves.

  • Eating and Drinking

Lavericks Bay Beach Cabin is self-catering. Just bring your own food and cook meals using the facilities provided in the cabin kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, Akaroa is a 35-minute drive away and filled with delicious places to eat out.

The nearest shop selling food and alcohol is the Akaroa Four Square. Akaroa also has some fantastic alternative food outlets, like the local butcher and deli.

  • Things to do

Private. Beach. Need we say more? Swim, fish, go rock hopping at low tide, bring your outdoor equipment and kayak, boogie board, surf or paddleboard. Have a beach campfire and toast marshmallows or sausages on a stick. The only others you may come across enjoying the beach during your stay are the campers staying at the Lavericks Bay Camp - 10 minutes up the valley.

There's plenty to keep you entertained on the property, but if you feel like treating yourself to lunch out, the pretty town of Akaroa is a short but scenic 35-minute drive away. The local area offers plenty of activities too - with kayak and bike rental, the Akaroa Cooking School and dolphin and nature cruises all on offer.

  • Your Hosts

Lavericks Bay is a farm with a rich family history. Harriet's parents were the 5th generation of the family to farm there, and Harriet and her siblings have fond memories of the adventurous childhood they had growing up on the stunning property.

Harriet met Lloyd, who also grew up on a south island farm, at Lincoln University and after a few years of study, travel and working overseas, they were married at home at Lavericks Bay. When Harriet's parents retired, they took the opportunity to move back and farm the family property with Joe, their six-week old baby. Daughters Scarlett and Willa followed soon after, and now the 7th generation of the family is enjoying the delights of the Lavericks Bay farming lifestyle.

The young family love their piece of Kiwi paradise - living by the sea and enjoying their beautiful soft sand beach. Welcoming and genuine, Harriet and Lloyd have a sincere desire to share their property with others...And they look forward to meeting you!

Lavericks Bay Beach Cabin was the perfect wee getaway spot for our family. The cabin is beautiful on the inside, and the views are breathtaking! Sitting in the hot tub and listening to the ocean was amazing! The kids especially loved that it was a working farm with cows, sheep, and farm dogs around. We will stay here again for sure!

Banks Peninsula is a spectacular part of the country, and Lavericks Bay is a very special little corner of it. The fact that you wind your way along a long road to get there only adds to its charm, and the views along the way are breathtaking - as are the views from the cabin itself. We loved our (fresh!) morning swim, the hot tub, the big outdoor table, but most of all, coffee from the deck looking out across the paddock to the sea. We wished we could have had two nights, such a treat.
