Wai Dome O Peak

Wai Dome O Peak

Waitomo, Waikato

Wai Dome O is 5 minutes from Waitomo township in the Waikato, and just over two hours drive from Auckland. It's just a few minutes away from one of New Zealand’s most iconic natural attractions – the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

On the same property in its own isolated spot, you'll find Wai Dome O Point.

Positioned on the top of a steep hill, the views over the rolling farmland hills and native bush are breathtaking. In the distance, you can see the Ngaroma Hills, Mt Pureora and even the grand Waitomo Caves Hotel.

The Dome is a large geodesic structure with front-row seats to soak up the views over the valley. A comfortable queen-sized bed, a small lounging area and a dining table are located inside. The toilet can be found a few steps outside the dome, while the kitchen and shower areas are located in their own separate buildings a few metres away. All of these structures were built using beautiful Lawson timber from the heart of the farm itself.

During the day, take advantage of all the amazing activities in the region... In the evening, relax. Watch the sky turn shades of pink and purple until the stars begin to sparkle and the moreporks start to call.

  • Your Hosts

Christen and Katie, along with their two young sons and Olaf the sausage dog, are your hosts at Wai Dome O Peak.

The farm has been in Christen's family since the early 1900s. Christen’s father, Peter, was also heavily involved in the caving world and setting up the local museum. Now with the land passed to Christen and Katie’s ownership, they've created a new tourism venture, Wai Dome O Peak and Wai Dome O Point.

Living in a truly stunning part of the country, with backgrounds working in tourism, it was a natural step for Katie and Christen to share what they have for guests to enjoy.

Wai Dome O is a play on the place name 'Waitomo'.

This glamping stay was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The dome was beautifully set up – peaceful, warm, and surrounded by nature that feels almost surreal. Watching the sunrise over the foggy valley with a hot coffee in hand was a moment of true stillness and healing for me. Katie was an incredible host – kind, responsive, and thoughtful. She helped me light the fireplace on my first night, and I slept so well with the sound of the fire crackling in the background. If you’re feeling burnt out or just need a break from the chaos of city life, this place is the perfect escape. Can’t recommend it enough. I’ll definitely be coming back.
