Treetops

Treetops

Taupō

Treetops is set just 10 minutes from the heart of Taupō, above Acacia Bay.

Treetops is also known as 'the tiny house of fantails' - named for the dozens of fantails that flit around the surrounding bush.

The 30m tiny house has been cleverly designed with adjoining living spaces and an expansive deck.

A kitchen, dining and lounge space make up the living area. The raised seating space faces east - and offers a sweeping view across Lake Taupō and to the Kaimanawa Ranges. The main bedroom has a queen bed and an opening door to the deck, ideal for enjoying the crisp morning air with a hot cuppa.

If you’re looking for an ‘alfresco’ touch, you can enjoy an outdoor shower by sliding the big glass doors open to the deck and the lake views. Listen to the dawn chorus of fantails, tuis, kereru, and bellbirds as they sing you awake.

In the evening soak in the outdoor hot tub and take in the twilight views. And as darkness falls, light the outdoor fire (when fire restrictions allow) and enjoy a campfire classic - s'mores!

Staying here, above the treetops, is a memorable and relaxing indoor-outdoor experience. A chance to escape a busy life and soak up the peace and tranquillity.

  • things to do

A stay at Treetops is a break from the world. Relax with the native birds and the peaceful lake views.

If you simply want to kick back at the property, there's an outdoor hot tub, swinging hammock, and a selection of board games to play. The property also has short bush walks and a track down into the gully to discover the glow worm grotto at night. Recommended! It is also possible to walk directly down this gully, then a street, and finally concrete steps to the swimming beach of Acacia.

Treetops is located close to the centre of Taupō. It's easy to pop out for the day to shop and indulge at the variety of restaurants on offer.

  • your host

Your host at Treetops is Geoff Prestidge - and Panda the cat!

Geoff has lived on this stunning property for 35 years. The peace and tranquillity is his favourite thing about living in this beautiful part of New Zealand. Geoff describes living in Acacia Bay as "feeling like you're on holiday every day".

Geoff, a retired school teacher, has gone to a huge amount of effort to create Treetops. From clearing the grounds of shrubs to make way for the tiny house to the final landscape development - every stage has required careful thought and consideration. He's looking forward to sharing his creation with guests and is happy to give further local knowledge and advice on what else there is available to experience.

You are very welcome to stay!

We absolutely loved staying at Treetops; it was beautiful inside and out. Geoff was so personable, and we loved the garden, the chickens, and the fresh eggs. The grounds were spectacular, and we even ventured down to the glowworm cave! We didn’t want to leave. Geoff, thanks for having us.

We loved our stay at Treetops. A warm welcome by our host, gorgeous facilities, and the view – oh, the view. We spent so much time just talking and admiring it. The tuis in the trees, the boats on Lake Taupō, the rain coming across the lake, hiding Taupō, and then watching it disappear. Treetops is a magical place to escape.

Geoff was an amazing host! He even offered to pick us up and drop us off at our bus stop when we arrived and left, which was incredibly kind of him. He’s a super friendly host who loves getting to know the people staying at Treetops and has excellent recommendations for things to do nearby. 10/10 recommend Treetops, and I can’t wait to come back someday!

We cannot recommend Treetops enough. The space itself is amazing and private - you can feel the love and care Geoff put into every corner. The bedroom is comfortable, the indoor/outdoor shower a treat, the kitchen well-equipped, and the living room beyond comfortable - but what truly stood out is the views. Every corner of the home has windows with panoramic beauty - from the nook in the living room, we experienced one of the most amazing sunrises (with flat whites from the espresso maker in the kitchen - another pleasant surprise). The home itself feels so private with the trees surrounding it, and stargazing from the hot tub at night was sublime. But best of all was our host Geoff who greeted us upon arrival, left us fruit from his own garden for breakfast, and even eggs from his chickens.

We had a fantastic stay at Treetops. The host was lovely, providing a great introduction to the property. The new cedar spa was brilliant for morning and evening soaks. The bed had lovely linen and was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything, including condiments and cooking gear. The lounge was cosy with amazing lake views. There was a nice deck outside the kitchen, and the bedroom had a table and chairs out onto the garden setting. The bird life was amazing, and it was such a chilled getaway. Privacy and tranquility were 100%. Thank you, Geoff, terrific!

We found Treetops to be a calming and restorative place. Every place you choose to sit has a stunning view: whether that's looking over the lake from the book nook, watching the fantails in the apple trees from the deck, or sitting under the stars in the hot tub. And host Geoff is a truly lovely human. Highly recommend.
