Awa Rere Hideaway

Awa Rere Hideaway

Central Plateau, Manawatū-Whanganui

Awa Rere Hideaway is set in Raurimu, a small settlement just 7 minutes north of National Park Village on the Central Plateau in the North Island.

Perched on a hillside, the cabin overlooks lush bush and the peaks of Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Ruapehu. Friendly native birds, such as the Tui and Wood Pigeon, are your neighbours, while the Piopiotea Stream flows below, visible from the deck.

Perfect for unwinding, the space features a cosy lounging area with a comfortable couch, kitchen space, and bathroom - separated by a wall that leads to the bedroom. Sliding glass doors ensure a picturesque view is never out of sight. An outdoor area with a bath, campfire, and hammock adds to the glamping magic.

Just seven minutes from the National Park Village, this is a fantastic winter stay for skiers, or equally lovely for those just looking for a cosy winter escape. In summer, the options are endless - walking in the National Park (such as the renowned Tongariro Crossing), mountain biking the many trails in the area, or even canoeing the Whanganui River.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Awa Rere Hideaway are Maree and her daughters, Haylee and Jessica.

The family have been on the property for just over five years. The mix of bush, river, and breathtaking views, as well as the convenience of being right by the highway, is what they love most about living in this stunning spot.

Maree stumbled upon glamping because she noticed the area lacked accommodations despite its adventure-filled surroundings. With their property deemed too small for full-time farming, they saw an opportunity to share their rural retreat with others.

The name "Awa Rere" means "flowing waters" in honour of the tranquil streams weaving through their land.

We just loved Awa Rere Hideaway. The attention to every detail was second to none. The cloud cleared, and we watched the sun rise over the mountains while the mist rolled through like something from a movie set.
