  • your hosts

Your hosts at The Waitomo Woolshed are Livi and Ollie along with their seven dogs, two horses, chickens, a pet sheep, and a pet pig named Apricot.

Ollie was born and raised on the family farm, which has been in the Kay family for three generations now. Livi moved from Auckland to the farm and never left. They love the tranquility and peace of their farm life and the beauty of Waitomo. Beyond the lush native bush and the limestone formations, it's the hidden treasures like the glow worms that make their farm truly magical.

Ollie is a farmer, and Livi is a horse riding coach for the local Riding for Disabled.

Ollie's work resulted in the farm becoming carbon-positive certified by 33%, showcasing their commitment to eco-friendly practices and planting efforts. In 2023, the farm achieved the Farm Assurance Plus Gold standard, demonstrating its focus on environmental practices, animal welfare, and biodiversity conservation, as assessed by Silver Fern Farms.

The name 'Waitomo Woolshed' comes from the southeast view where you can see the original Woolshed on Tumu Tumu Farm. It's a beautiful, big old silver building that is still used today and holds many special family memories.

The Woolshed was flawless, from the scenery to the hosts to the touch of home. Staying here was one of the top highlights of our honeymoon. While we never met the hosts, they were extremely accommodating and communicative. We didn’t want to leave, would absolutely return, and have already recommended it to a friend for their next trip to NZ.

We loved our stay at the Waitomo Woolshed. It had a beautiful atmosphere, and the location offered the best views – the most amazing and relaxing place to stay to unwind. Everything, down to the small details, was amazing: bubble bath for the outdoor bath, hand-picked flowers, fresh farm eggs, and homemade bread on arrival.

It’s hard to put into words the amazingness that is The Waitomo Woolshed. Everything is perfect, from the view to the spacious facilities, and of course, the outside bath and shower. We only live 20 minutes from the Woolshed yet felt like we were miles away. We also had the most sound sleep we’ve had in a long time. Livi is lovely and very welcoming. Ngā mihi nui.

The Waitomo Woolshed was the perfect winter weekend escape. The views were phenomenal, the accommodation was clearly well cared for and looked very recently built. The woodburner was easy to use and kept us nice and toasty, and the peace and tranquillity were exactly what we needed! We ventured out into Waitomo for lunch at the café, which was a short drive, and we left very satisfied. We could easily have stayed at The Waitomo Woolshed and not left for the entire weekend! We really appreciated the extra homely touches, like fresh home-baked bread and eggs from the owners' chooks. Highly recommend and would love to stay again.
