  • your hosts

Tanja and Andrew, along with their children Mila and Luca, are your hosts at Tamahunga Hut.

Tanja and Andrew have resided in their charming old villa for 11 years. It was initially located in Remuera but was moved to Mt Tamahunga's slopes 25 years ago for a slower lifestyle amidst nature. Surrounded by native forests teeming with birdlife, including kiwis, the area feels like a secluded haven. Despite its natural setting, it's conveniently close to restaurants, farmer's markets and the village.

Formerly a pilot, Andrew now relishes country life, while Tanja practices as a massage therapist. Both share a deep connection to nature, reminiscent of Andrew's childhood summers camping in the Coromandel. They aim to provide guests with a true glamping experience, combining nature's tranquillity with home-like comforts.

The hut's name, 'Tamahunga Hut' is inspired by Mt Tamahunga, the name of the mountain they live on. It's also the 'peak' between Auckland and Whangārei and well known for its cultural importance.

Tamahunga Hut is the most beautiful place to relax and unwind. There's a delightful outdoor shower and the most outstanding outdoor bath overlooking the bush, full of native birds, making for the most tranquil experience. The host offers relaxation massages in a private massage studio, which really tops off the experience. And better yet, the whole decking area is securely fenced so your pooch can be safely contained. We had the best time here with our dog and would recommend it to anyone wanting some time out.
