Skyhut

Skyhut

Auckland

Skyhut is just one hour's drive from Auckland city.

The wooden hut is embraced by native trees, with sweeping views of the surrounding farmland and pine tree forests from the deck. The Kaipara Harbour can be seen in the distance - particularly breathtaking during sunset and sunrise.

The hut features a warm macrocarpa interior with skylights that provide a celestial canvas for stargazing from the comfort of your bed. A few steps away is a separate outdoor kitchen and bathroom. The deep stone outdoor bath is just a bit further away – a great spot to relax with wine and nibbles.

Throughout your stay, the distant roar of Muriwai Beach’s ocean waves harmonises with the rustling tree leaves and the melodies of native birds, occasionally accompanied by the gentle mooing of cows.

Skyhut offers a delightful mix of entertainment with board games, books, and an outdoor bath. Boogie to the music on the vinyl record player (with Bluetooth) or head outdoors for some friendly competition with a game of Finska.

If you feel like getting out and about, the region has plenty to offer. Play 18 holes at the South Head Golf Club or go fishing and swimming at Shelly Beach. For a refreshing dip, head to Lake Ototoa, just 15 minutes away, or Muriwai Beach (access is just 5 minutes away, with an additional 15 minutes needed if you're taking the 4WD track). Explore Te Rau Puriri Regional Park for beautiful walks, short or long.

The Liberty Brewing Tap Room offers excellent beer tastings and there are plenty of wine tastings at the local Kumeu wineries, just 30 minutes away. Your hosts especially recommended Westbrook Winery,

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Skyhut, James and Lauren, live on the family farm with their daughters, Billie and Elle, and their friendly cocker spaniel, Watson, who may visit during your stay.

James, who grew up on the property, and Lauren took over the farm a few years ago. With a shared love for adventure and inspired by their glamping experiences, they built Skyhut to share the beauty of their land. The farm's serene hills, greenery, and slower pace of life offer a peaceful retreat from the city.

They chose the name Skyhut because they wanted to include large roof windows in the cabin, making guests feel one with the stars at night and closer to nature.

We had the most beautiful stay at Sky Hut. The setting, atmosphere, hosts, and facilities were all amazing, but the sky roof was the selling point. A once-in-a-lifetime experience stargazing from bed and seeing a comet shoot past was so special. We can’t recommend this place enough and will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at Skyhut. The small touches, like the gumboots and umbrella, as well as the records and games, made our stay comfortable and relaxing. It is a beautiful farm, which added to the enjoyment as well. Seeing the stars at night was romantic and a nice little touch.
