Wahapū Cabin

Clevedon, Auckland

Wahapū Cabin is just a 40-minute drive from the heart of Auckland.

Nestled on private farmland, the cabin sits in its own tranquil corner, surrounded by native New Zealand plants that frame sweeping views across rolling pastures out to The Wairoa River.

This secluded couples' retreat features two charming cabins: a cosy sleeping space with a super king bed and generous windows framing pastoral views, and a separate kitchen and hot water shower just steps away.

What makes Wahapū truly special is the complete seclusion paired with the open skies – particularly while soaking in the outdoor bath beneath the stars. Watch morning sunrises paint the landscape in golden hues, then spend evenings stargazing from your private deck. Wake to the sounds of ducks and geese flying overhead, or the gentle calls of native birdlife welcoming the day.

Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, seeking a digital detox, or simply craving quality time away from the everyday, Wahapū Cabin delivers an authentic escape that feels worlds away from the city.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Wahapū Cabin are James and Gel.

James has spent all 33 years of his life here. His parents have farmed the land for over 40 years since it was purchased by his grandfather's family in 1978. The farm spans coastal lowlands to steep hill country, with the cabin nestled on "the flats" near the mouth of the Wairoa River. Over the decades, they've planted thousands of native trees and increased pest control, bringing birds back to the property.

James works on the farm, caring for the animals and maintaining the land, while Gel works at Love Food Hate Waste NZ.

The name "Wahapū" means "mouth of a bay, river, or harbour" in Māori, perfectly reflecting the cabin's special location as it's near the mouth of the Wairoa River.
