Redwood Farm - Pūriri Tinyhouse

Redwood Farm - Pūriri Tinyhouse

Te Puke, Bay of Plenty

Pūriri Tinyhouse on Redwood Farm is just 15 minutes from Te Puke and 40 minutes from Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. The property also features another glamping escape, Titoki Hut.

Set next to a Pūriri tree on the beautiful 200-hectare beef farm, the tiny house is small but perfectly formed. A bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/lounge area are all contained within the stylish interior - the front-facing glass wall capturing the sweeping rural views from the Te Puke hills.

The views are what it's all about at this spot. 360-degree views capture the coastline and Mount Edgecumbe/Putauaki. On a clear winter's day, the snow-capped peak of Mount Tarawera can be seen. Watch the sunrise from your bed - and on a clear day, see White Island on the horizon, billowing smoke. An outdoor hot tub, big enough for two, is the perfect place to take it all in.

Head out to enjoy the many things to do in the surrounding area - or just sit back and relax. A seating area under the Pūriri tree is cool and shady for a cold drink on a hot summer day. Watch as the Kereru swoop in and out to eat the berries and the tui and fantail dart about.

When the sun goes down, spark up the fire pit. Toast some marshmallows, drink some red wine, and take in those incredible stars in that crystal-clear night sky.

  • Eating and Drinking

Pūriri Tinyhouse at Redwood Farm has all the facilities you need to self-cater. Just bring your own food and prepare meals in the kitchenette. There is a gas hob inside and a barbeque outside for cooking and you'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you want a break from cooking, there are some great restaurants in Te Puke, Jellicoe Street Pub, Thai Star, Lumberjack Pub and Smart India. For coffee and light meals, pop into The Daily Cafe or The Marigold.

If you need to stock up on supplies, you'll find supermarkets in Te Puke, about a 15-minute drive away.

  • Things to do

Redwood Farm is the ultimate year-round rural escape for couples. Choose to hunker down and get some much-needed rest and relaxation or get out and about to explore the region.

In the summer months, check out the Black Stump Strawberry Farm in Te Puke, they have great coffee and beautiful real fruit ice cream. Or head to the beach for a swim! Mount Maunganui is a 35-minute drive away.

For keen walkers, the Papamoa Hills Regional walk is a 25 minutes drive from the property. Its a great walk with views out to Mount Mangaunui. Or the Mount itself (35 minutes away) is also a popular walk.

You're just a 40-minute drive from the action of Rotorua. As well as the geothermal tourism it's known for, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy -  Canopy Tours and the Skyline Gondola and Luge come highly recommended! Or for something more adrenaline-fuelled try White Water Rafting or Mountain Biking.

Those that wish to just chill out and enjoy time spent at the cabin, will love taking in the nature and quiet tranquillity of the surrounding farm. There are plenty of board games, books and magazines - as well as binoculars for bird watching and a night-sky map for stargazing.

  • Your Hosts

Emma and Scott McGlashan, their children Lily and Orla and Riley their pet dog are your hosts at Redwood Farm.

Scott grew up on Redwood Farm, and his parents have owned it for 30 years. Scott's parents, Ross and Christine, still live on the farm.

Emma and Scott love living on the farm. With uninterrupted views to the coast, they feel a million miles away while actually only a being 15-minute drive to town.

Emma fell in love with the idea of offering glamping on the property when she saw the 2011 episode of Country Calendar, featuring Kawakawa Station - the original Canopy Camping Escapes glamping site. When the couple finally moved to live on the farm in 2014, they set about finding the perfect spot for their own glamping escape.

In 2019, they finally launched Pūriri Tinyhouse, their first glamping accommodation. After the incredible popularity of this spot, it was followed swiftly by Titoki Hut in 2020.

Redwood Farm is named after a stand of giant Redwood trees on the property.

Stunning place to relax and reset. The outdoor bath and fireplace were great features, and watching a kererū in the tree while enjoying these spaces was very cool. The bed was super comfortable with a stunning outlook. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway.

Apart from the wonderful facilities and warm atmosphere, my girlfriend and I absolutely loved the kind welcome message from the host, which was left on the kitchen counter for us. We enjoyed having a hot cup of tea on the sofa while watching the stunning fire in the indoor fireplace. We also had dinner while sitting next to the outdoor wood-burning fireplace, with its warm and lively flames. Thanks so much!

Redwood Farm was absolutely perfect for a weekend of rest and relaxation and to get off-grid. It had everything that we needed, and the attention to detail was amazing. Additionally, it was only a 15-minute drive to cafes and restaurants.
