Serenity Retreat

Serenity Retreat

Coromandel

Serenity Retreat is an 80-acre lifestyle property located about two hours drive from Auckland on the Coromandel Peninsula. It's set between the seaside towns of Tairua and Whitianga - just 8 minutes drive to Tairua and 30 minutes to Whitianga.

Accessed by an 8-metre walkway from the carpark, the stylish off-grid hut is set next to a little stream at the bottom of a lush hillside of bush on the property.

Inside the hut, is a queen-sized bed, with a double loft bed up a ladder for children. A small table and banquet seat is available for indoor dining, with double doors opening directly out to a large covered outdoor kitchen, dining and lounging space. A small semi-outdoor bathroom is set by the stream and connected via a walkway to the hut.

The views from the many windows in the hut make you feel immersed in the surrounding nature. The view from the outdoor kitchen stretches across the Coromandel countryside. At night, kiwi and morepork call from the surrounding bush, and on a clear night, you'll enjoy a star-studded sky.

Directions

Serenity Retreat is set in the Coromandel, approximately 2 hours from Auckland and 8 minutes from the seaside town of Tairua. The Google Maps instructions will get you there.

When you arrive, you’ll initially turn off Tairua-Whitianga Road onto a shared gravel driveway. Carry on straight along this gravel driveway for about 50 metres until you reach the steep concrete section of driveway. About 30m along the concrete section of the drive, turn into the paddock on the right. You’ll see the hut at this point. You can drive right up and park at the walkway to the hut. The key will be located in a lock box on the right hand side at the entry point to the hut walkway (the code will be supplied via our pre-arrival email that is sent to you 5 days prior to your stay).

    Things to do

At the hut, relax and soak up the views. There are plenty of board games to keep you entertained, but if you want to explore, you're welcome to go for a walk on the property to visit the animals. You'll find pet animals in the nearby paddocks including horses, a donkey, friendly goats, miniature horses, a Kune Kune pig and pet sheep.

If you want to get active, there are lots and lots of things to see and do in the local area. Walk to Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui A Hei) or visit Hot Water beach to dig your own hot pool. Nearby surf beaches include Tairua, Sailors Grave and Hot Water Beach, Whangamata.

The DOC walks through Hikuai, Broken Hills, offer the chance to discover old gold mine tracks, native weta caves and beautiful rivers to swim in. The Coroglen Pub for lunch and a swim in the Waiwawa River with a rope swing jump is a highlight. Kids will love the Waterworks - a fun park with water made by a local engineer. Kayaking, horse trekking and Fishing Charters are all on offer in the local area too! Let's just say that for those 'active relaxers' - you won't run out of options!
