DIRECTIONS
If you drive into Waipukurau from Dannevirke (coming from the South): once you have crossed the railway lines, veer right down the main road (Ruataniwha St) until you reach the roundabout (grassed area and public toilets to the right). You will see a sign saying Porangahau right. Turn right to follow the sign.
If you drive into Waipukurau from Waipawa (coming from the North): pass Caltex on your left and you’ll come to a big roundabout with a sign saying Porangahau straight through.
Go straight through the next roundabout. You are now on Porangahau Rd which you’ll follow all the way out until you reach Wilder Road. It’ll take you about 25 mins from Waipukurau to the start of Wilder Rd and another 10mins to Birch Hill from there.
Landmarks:
After about 10 mins you’ll pass the Wanstead Pub on your right
Lake Road to the right
Ugly Hill Road to the right
Bush Road to the left
Wallingford Rd to the left, over Wallingford Bridge
Pass Wallingford Homestead to the right
Blackhead Rd to the left
Old Hill Rd to the left Wilder Road is the next right about 2Km after you pass Old Hill Rd. It is sealed for the first 2km and then gravel for the remaining 8km (but fairly straight).
ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS
Birch Hill Station is at the very end of Wilder Rd. You’ll drive straight from the road onto the farm and see the big Birch Hill sign and Canopy Camping sign on the gate. (Ben and Libby's house is the black one on the left).
1) To go to the vehicle shed to get ice packs and locate the fridge/freezer:
Once you see the ‘Birch Hill’ sign, drive straight for 50m (toward a cream cottage) & then take the FIRST left to the 3-bay vehicle shed & the backdoor of Libby & Ben’s house. The fridge freezer is in the first bay of the shed (it is signposted). Knock on the door or give us a call on 0278467413 and we can pop out to answer any questions.
2) To go straight to the campsite: (Please leave all gates as you find them)
Once you get to Birch Hill, you'll need to follow the 3 'Canopy Camping' and 2 'CAMPSITE' signs.
You'll drive straight ahead for 50m towards a cream cottage and grass roundabout. You'll see another Canopy Camping sign on the left and a sign next to it saying 'CAMPSITE 800M'. Follow the arrow left. You'll drive along a lane for 500m and at the top of the rise you'll see another sign saying 'CAMPSITE 300M' and a cottage to your left (Dama Lodge) and left of that again a 3rd Canopy Camping sign by a gate. Follow that road through that gate and you'll arrive at the campsite after 300m. Welcome!
