The Brewer's Night Inn

The Brewer's Night Inn

Reefton, West Coast

It's not often that we come across something so special, that we bend our rules to accommodate it. The Brewer's Night Inn isn't strictly remote or immersed in nature, but it is a true 'escape' - and one of the most unique and beautiful creations we've come across.

The Brewer's Night Inn is set on a quiet street in Reefton, a small town on the West Coast filled with yesteryear atmosphere. Reefton is 3 hours from Christchurch and 2.5 hours from Nelson.

The inspiration for The Brewer's Night Inn stemmed from an early settler and original owner of the inn, Stewart Monteith (aka The Brewer). Built in the 1870s, the original cottage has been meticulously renovated and furnished to maintain its historic edge. The stunning, moody interior is a masterful cross between a rustic high-country cabin and a luxurious hotel.

The inn is an open-plan space with a lounge, kitchen, and bedroom. Beautiful french doors, lead onto a brick patio and a thriving English garden, filled with wildflowers in summer. A gorgeous Victorian-inspired bathroom features a concrete soak tub and dramatic linen drapes.

A stay at The Brewer's Night Inn is an experience you won't forget. It's a chance to escape from reality, and take a step back in time - with a touch of modern luxury.

It was an absolute treat to stay at The Brewers Night Inn. From the outside, it looks like a fairly modest, but tidy older home. Open the door to discover a whole new, beautifully curated world from Reefton's past. All the luxuries are available, including a stunning bath, lovely cooking facilities, and a very comfortable bed with divine linen. And then there are the touches which make it so special—the old newspapers on the wall, the vintage trinkets, a secret wardrobe. You are stepping back into the cottage of a miner from the past. Everything is right about this gorgeous little Inn. Tim was the perfect host. We could have stayed forever and highly recommend it.

Just perfect – a modern twist on yesteryear. Beautifully renovated, keeping it as authentic as possible while making the space stylish, warm, and welcoming. The entertainment room with the piano and turntable was a treat on a wet, cold weekend. When the sun comes out, it streams through the large windows, and the cottage garden is the ideal place to soak it up. The best shower we've ever had, and the large stone bath was total luxury. Reefton is a lovely little village with plenty of good biking and walking trails close by, not to mention the best gin distillery in NZ... and the tasting room is literally 100m from the front door. Don't miss this little accommodation gem!
