Cabin Hill

Taranaki

Cabin Hill is 25 minutes from New Plymouth city and just over 2 hours from Whanganui.

Set on an elevated spot near the National Park, this off-grid retreat offers 360-degree views of nature's finest. The Pouakai Ranges rise behind, with Taranaki Maunga in the distance. To the west and north, uninterrupted sea views stretch toward the Kaitake Ranges, blending mountain and coastal vistas.

Step inside, where you're immediately welcomed by a cosy, sunlit lounge designed for ultimate comfort. Sliding glass doors open onto the front deck, inviting you to relax and soak in the surrounding landscape, including the regenerating native plantings.

The quaint bedroom, with a small loft above for a child, ensures a good night's sleep. A side deck leads to the BBQ area and an outdoor shower with hot water, while the stainless steel, wood-fired outdoor hot tub is the perfect spot to fully unwind and soak in the experience.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Cabin Hill are Will, Sarah, and Will's children, Aspen and Bechler.

For many years, this alpine location has been their home – a place of golden sunsets, crisp mountain air, and refreshing dips in the stream.

Will, inspired by years of exploring DOC huts, built Cabin Hill as his dream escape. By day, he runs a company that provides renewable energy power systems, while Sarah works for a local consultancy firm specialising in environmental management.

Cabin Hill is a uniquely shaped 15-acre property, with a raised central area where the cabin sits, making "Cabin Hill" the perfect name.
