Cape Hideaway

Cape Hideaway

Hawke's Bay

Cape Hideaway is located in Te Awanga, around 22 minutes from Napier and approximately 4 hours from Wellington.

Set on a peaceful block of land, the cabin overlooks a small pond with sheep grazing in the surrounding paddocks. Native birdlife is part of the experience too, with kākā, kererū, tūī and grey warblers often heard nearby, while ducks and herons frequent the pond.

The cabin has everything you need and nothing you don’t, with a well-equipped kitchen and a spacious deck and verandah for soaking up the setting. The separate bathroom is just a few metres away across the deck, while the outdoor bath makes a lovely spot to unwind at the end of the day. It’s an easy choice for a quiet couples’ getaway, anniversary or special occasion.

When you feel like exploring, Cape Kidnappers, vineyards, cycle trails and golf courses are all within easy reach. The Maraetōtara River swimming hole and Te Awanga Beach are also nearby, along with cafés, a local pub and shops. When the swell is right, Te Awanga is a great spot for surfing too.

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Cape Hideaway are Rachel and Jesse.

Both originally from Hawke’s Bay, they spent much of the past 15 years living and working overseas before returning home with their son George. They love the peaceful coastal setting, the Te Awanga community, and being close to the beach, river and cycle trail.

With a shared love of camping, fishing, surfing and the outdoors, they decided the property was too special to keep to themselves.

Cape Hideaway takes its name from the secluded, peaceful spot tucked away at the back of the property.

Scenic coastal landscape viewed through a golden tent opening, showing lush green hillside with forest line meeting turquoise ocean waters under clear blue sky
