Cotter’s Corner

Cotter’s Corner

Bay of Plenty

Cotter’s Corner is an easy 10-minute drive from Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty.

This charming A-frame cabin is a quaint romantic hideaway made for couples to slow down and reconnect. Native bush wraps around it, and the view stretches across bush and farmland to the neighbouring hills, with tūī calling from the trees throughout the day.

Inside, the super king bed sits snug beside a large triangular window and a Velux skylight, so you can take in the outdoors without leaving the covers. At the other end, a full wall of books invites you to curl up with a good read.

A few steps away, a separate pavilion with a striking butterfly-wing roof houses the semi-outdoor kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen opens onto a front deck under a canvas awning, with a small round table for a hot cuppa. The bathroom looks out over native bush to an outdoor bath on the bush edge, ready for a soak beneath the canopy.

Between the cabin and kitchen, the fire pit is where evenings come alive. Toast s’mores, cosy up under the stars and listen for ruru as night falls.

Less than five minutes from Rotorua Airport and set in its own small oasis of native bush, it’s the perfect spot for an anniversary, a honeymoon or simply an excuse to escape the hustle and bustle.

Eating and drinking near Escape

EATING AND DRINKING

Cotter's Corner is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the double-gas-ring burner, BBQ, and fire pit. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

When you fancy a night off cooking, there are some great local spots to try. Okere Falls Store + Craft Beer Garden is a locals’ favourite for breakfast and lunch, and their Friday burger night is a must. Eastwood Cafe also serves breakfast and lunch, plus amazing pizzas for dinner on select nights, with live music on some Fridays. For something special, Yamato offers authentic Japanese cuisine that some say rivals the real thing, while Parc is a lovely little coffee spot on the lakefront in town.

For supplies, the well-stocked Fresh Choice supermarket is just a 7-minute drive away, while Rotorua’s town centre, with its larger supermarkets, is only 10 minutes from the property.

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Cotter's Corner are Josh and Annique

Annique grew up on this Rotorua property, having moved onto the family land at just three years old. After a few years in the UK, where Annique studied and Josh played semi-professional rugby, the couple returned and jumped at the chance to build a home of their own here.

Surrounded by lakes and forests, it’s an oasis that feels a world away while sitting close to town, and a wonderful place for their children, Remmi-lou and Hendrix, to grow up. Cotter’s Corner brings their talents together, blending Annique’s eye as an interior designer with Josh’s skills as a builder. Josh has since stepped back from full-time building to homeschool the kids, who even learned from the build as part of their schooling. Passionate about the outdoors, the family can’t wait to share this special spot with you.
