The Elevated Rest

The Elevated Rest

New Plymouth, Taranaki

The Elevated Rest sits just 15 minutes from New Plymouth city and two hours from Whanganui.

This romantic retreat is tucked into the rolling farmland hills of Taranaki with sweeping views of Mount Taranaki, the coast, and local landmarks including Paritutu Rock and the Sugar Loaf Islands. The changing sky puts on a show morning and night, perfect for stargazing once the light fades.

Every detail inside has been considered, from the deep olive tones and rich brown walls to the brass touches and sheepskin throws, all adding up to a warm, luxurious feel. A marble kitchen, Roaring Meg wood fire, and plush velvet couch sit beneath a large window that frames the view from the lounge. In the bedroom, earthy tones create a calm space, with 100% linen and bamboo sheets to sink into, and an ensuite with a rain shower.

A stone bath and brazier set the scene for slowing down, and when you're ready to explore, take out the e-bikes or simply wander the farm track on the property with your furry friend by your side.

THINGS TO DO

Soak in the outdoor bath under the stars, or settle in with puzzles, board games, and cards for relaxed days at the cabin. Stretch your legs on the farm walk across the property, with birdsong from native tūī often keeping you company, whether you're out walking or back at the cabin.

When you're ready to explore, climb Paritutu Rock for the views, or head up Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki (Mount Taranaki), where tracks range from short walks to the Pouākai Tarn or all the way to the summit. Walk or cycle the Coastal Walkway, stopping at The Little Easy Container Cafe for a cuppa along the way.

Surf at Fitzroy or East End, or head to Lake Mangamahoe for walking and biking tracks. Visit Pukekura Park, then cycle on to Te Rewa Rewa Bridge for views back to the maunga.

Catch a show at the Bowl of Brooklands, or spend the day at Oakura Beach. Stop in at Dawn for a coffee, a drink at the bar, or wood-fired pizza by the sea, or head to Okurukuru Winery for an afternoon of wine tasting with views over the coast.

Just 5km from the cabin, you'll find local berry picking in season over summer, along with real fruit ice cream!

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at The Elevated Rest are Natasha and Brenden, along with their three children, Micah, Joby and Keeva, four dogs, Murphy, Harvey, Hank and Ottie, and a cat named Tussy.

Natasha and Brenden have owned the property for 15 years, first as a dairy runoff block, and later building their family home here eight years ago, drawn in by the rolling farmland and sweeping 360-degree views of Mount Taranaki and the Tasman Sea. As a warm, food-loving family with a background in hospitality, they can't wait to share their wee cabin of R&R with you.
