Evergreen Yurt

Evergreen Yurt

Kaeo, Northland

Evergreen Yurt is set in the Far North, just under 4 hours from Auckland and 30 minutes from Kerikeri.

A scenic 10-minute ride in a Cam-Am Defender farm buggy will transport you to Evergreen Yurt - hidden deep within native bushland. Perched on a hilltop, enveloped by ancient trees, the yurt looks out to rolling hills and the silhouette of Taratara Rock, a sacred Māori landmark.

The yurt has a beautiful high ceiling and an openable skylight welcoming the sights and sounds of the surrounding forest. The tall, wide windows frame breathtaking views of the outside world.

Just a few steps away is a cabin with two separate rooms for the kitchen and bathroom. Bridging the two spaces together is a spacious deck adorned with an outdoor bath, perfectly positioned for front-row views of morning mist drifting through the hills. Towering Totara and graceful Puriri trees provide natural shade, while birdsong offers a tranquil musical backdrop. With no light pollution, the night sky here is incredible.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Evergreen Yurt are Mathias and Robin, along with their rescue dog, Lucy.

Ten years ago, Mathias, from Germany, and Robin, from the United States, made New Zealand their home. After meeting in Wellington, they shared a dream of leaving the bustling city for countryside peace. In 2021, they made that dream a reality by moving to Kaeo and establishing Evergreen Reserve—a place for guests to escape into nature.

Evergreen Reserve’s mission reflects Mathias and Robin’s dedication to conserving New Zealand’s native bush, protecting the Kiwi bird population, enhancing biodiversity, controlling pests, and offering a warm B&B experience for guests to reconnect with nature. Hosting WWOOFers from around the world adds fresh energy and stories to their sanctuary.

The couple enjoys taking joy in nurturing native plants and planting trees, supported by a community of neighbours who share their love for the land.

With years of hospitality experience worldwide, Mathias brings a passion for hosting, ensuring every guest feels at home. Their glamping inspiration came from a memorable 2018 stay at another Canopy Camping escape.
