Fox Hut

Fox Hut

Near Punakaiki, West Coast

Fox Hut is set on a coastal clifftop property on the famous Great Coast Highway, halfway between Greymouth and Westport and just a seven-minute drive from Punakaiki (site of the 'Pancake Rocks').

Fox Hut is the 'sister hut' to Woodpecker Hut, the original hut on the property, made famous for its incredible views and simple, yet lovely rustic vibe.

Fox Hut is modelled from a pitched roof gold miners' hut with an enclosed lean-to kitchen and sitting area. Far from the basic hut design of yesteryear though, Fox Hut oozes rustic luxury. Recycled timber-lined walls are accompanied by accents of brass, plush floor rugs and sheepskins - adding to the feel of quality and comfort. Huge glass windows frame the captivating ocean view.

A wood-fired cedar hot tub is set into the deck at the front of the hut - the perfect place to sit and soak - and watch the sun go down on the wild West Coast.

Winter or Summer, Fox Hut is the perfect couples retreat. Romantic, private and close to nature - you'll leave this place rested and reconnected.

Fantastic accommodation with all the required amenities. Awesome views of the Tasman Sea. It is in such a great part of NZ, with heaps to explore just minutes from the hut. Watching the sunset in the hot tub was a highlight.

It was my first ever trip to the Coast and I could not have imagined a more perfect location to experience the drama and beauty of this special part of NZ. Fox Hut was impeccable and the coastal bush location unmatched. A real highlight of our stay was experiencing proper West Coast rain in the hot tub one night, and then the Milky Way on full glorious display the next. Fox Hut is cosy and rugged West Coast perfection. Massive fans.

It was lovely to get away and relax. I had hurt my back, so couldn't do a lot, which made the Fox Hut a great place to be. We had originally planned to do the walks and see the sights, but were not able to due to my back.

Fox Hut was an absolute surprise. It is a rare gem hidden in an unspoiled paradise on the West Coast of NZ. Sitting elevated, overlooking the Tasman Sea, only 10 minutes from Punakaiki, this gorgeous 'hut' exceeded our expectations. It has been beautifully thought out, set out, and appointed. Everything we needed was on hand, and the correspondence prior to our arrival was excellent. With drinks in hand, we watched the sunset nightly from our sun-drenched deck before watching the stars from a wood-fired hot tub. We simply could not have asked for more. Heaven! 10/10 best stay ever!
