Green Rabbit

Green Rabbit

Mangonui, Northland

The Green Rabbit is set in the Far North, approximately 4 hours from Auckland and just 5 minutes from nearby Mangonui Village.

Set on the same property as the popular River Bothy, The Green Rabbit is a pitched roof cabin with buckets of personality.

Inside the cabin, an elevated bed nook with a large window makes you feel as if you're sleeping amongst nature. Lie in bed and stargaze at the starry night sky - or wake early to watch the sunrise gently spill over the hills.

There is small kitchen space inside the cabin and the smallest, cutest wood burner for cosy winter stays. Built-in comfy seating is a great place to relax while you explore the collection of vinyl records on the record player.

Take in the peaceful daytime vistas and the incredible night-time skies. The outdoor deck invites you to grab a glass, a book or just hang with each other and talk into the night. An outdoor bath nearby is hunkered in its own little cocoon of privacy. Light a few candles and soak in the views as you bathe in nature.

If you want to get out and about, the scenic Northland area offers lots to see and do - coastal walks, scenic lookouts and white sandy beaches.

A stay at Green Rabbit is a chance to relax and unwind. Soak in the outdoor bath and take in the unique surrounds of your olive grove and river-side setting. If you have a kayak or paddleboard, bring it along and explore the river from the water.

There's plenty to do off the property as well. Visit the local winery, or the Butler Point Whaling Museum for a bit of history, or explore the stunning nearby beaches that Doubtless Bay has to offer. • Your Hosts

Maggie and Brooke are the owners of the River Bothy. They’ll be your hosts during your stay.

Maggie originated from bonny Scotland and Brooke from the Hawke's Bay.

In 2016, after an accumulated 32 years working at Auckland zoo, Maggie and Brooke decided to begin a new chapter in their lives with the goal to build a sustainable lifestyle.  They purchased Riverside Escapes, a riverfront olive grove in the far north of New Zealand.

Riverside Escapes is located on the banks of the Oruaiti River and is surrounded by stunning countryside. The 500 mature olive trees on the property are harvested annually producing ‘Shaken down’, their own brand of delicious olive oil.

Maggie and Brooke already welcome guests to their property with their beautiful River Bothy cabin and Mr Pickles, a beautiful revamped house bus. They want to encourage guests to come for a visit, unplug from the rush, re-connect, and experience the beauty of Northland and the magic of the Far North.
