Hawks Nest

Hawks Nest

Canterbury

Hawks Nest is just 15 minutes from Oxford and an hour's drive north of Christchurch.

Surrounded by breathtaking 360-degree views of farmland, foothills, and the sparkling Canterbury Plains, the scenery never disappoints. On a clear day, you can catch a glimpse of the distant ocean.

Embrace the simplicity of life in this cosy hut. It has two separate rooms—one with a queen bed and the other with bunks. A woodburner will keep you toasty. The outdoor deck features an enclosed cooking station for alfresco dining.

A few steps away is an outdoor bath on its own private deck overlooking the hills and grazing livestock. If you are lucky, you may spot the wild deer prancing by.

As dusk falls, embrace the magic of the twinkling lights of Christchurch City in the distance and the starry sky above.

  • things to do

There’s plenty to keep you entertained during your stay. Enjoy the collection of board games and cards, or unwind in the outdoor bath while soaking in the tranquil surroundings. Binoculars are provided, see how many wild deer you can spot. Guests are also welcome to explore the farm and take in the fresh air.

Beyond Hawks Nest, there are plenty of nearby native bush walks just waiting to be explored. A 5-minute drive will take you to trails at Mount Thomas and Mount Richardson. Along the way, you may encounter waterfalls nestled within historic forests. For longer hikes, head up the scenic summits for incredible views.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Hawks Nest are Chris and Lisa.

The couple have lived on the property with their children, Tully and Beau, since 2018. The family loves being part of the community, especially since they’re close to relatives. It's the first farm they’ve owned, and they love it—particularly the location in the foothills, close to native bush and birdlife. Spotting wild deer grazing from the kitchen window is a magical sight.

Lisa is a stay-at-home mum who helps out on the farm, while Chris runs the farm alongside his crop-spraying business.

The hut is named after the hawks that frequently circle the gully below. It's likely guests will spot several during their stay!
