Nature Nurtures Retreat

Nature Nurtures Retreat

Wellington-Wairarapa

Nature Nurtures Retreat is 45 minutes from Wellington city.

Escape to Nature Nurtures Retreat, where two charming A-frame huts nestle deep in a stunning native beech forest.

The two huts sit side by side on a shared deck – one housing your cosy queen bedroom with a loft net, the other a quaint kitchen, bathroom and dining space. Both overlook the beautiful forest. Down a short flight of steps, you'll find a private outdoor nook where twin bathtubs overlook the forest canopy, perfect for starlit soaks while listening to the evening chorus of moreporks.

Wander the property's private bush loop, soak up the peace of the forest, and let the tūī serenades during the day wash away your stress. With underfloor heating keeping you toasty inside and a gas fire pit for atmospheric evenings, you'll have everything you need to disconnect and recharge in this beautiful slice of native wilderness.

  • Eating and Drinking

Nature Nurtures Retreat is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the two-burner induction cooker and a gas Weber BBQ provided. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you fancy venturing out, there are some great local spots nearby. Fig Tree Cafe (a local favourite, 15 minutes away) is perfect for a coffee and brunch, Silverstream Bakery (10 minutes) has incredible fresh bakery treats, and if you're up for a fun evening out, Brewtown Upper Hutt (20 minutes) has multiple bars and eateries, plus activities like axe throwing!

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Upper Hutt, approximately a 10-minute drive away.

  • Things To Do

Start by soaking in the twin outdoor baths under the stars, gathering around the gas fire pit, or cosying up inside with games and a good book. The property also has a fully private bush walk where you can immerse yourself in the native forest.

Feeling adventurous? The nearby Pakuratahi Forest has a fantastic trail network, including the historic Tunnel Gully trail with old railway tunnels and bridges that's absolutely worth exploring. Or hop on the Hutt River Trail, which stretches all the way from Upper Hutt to Petone for a scenic ride or walk.

  • Your Hosts

Your hosts at Nature Nurtures Retreat are Glen, Celeste and Ollie the border collie.

After a two-year search, they fell in love with this special pocket of the Blue Mountains and purchased the bare property in 2018. Glen quit his engineering job to build their home, and soon realised they wanted to share this beautiful native bush haven with others. Celeste runs her design business from a cosy studio nestled in the bush, while Glen works in construction and engineering.

The name "Nature Nurtures" reflects their ethos perfectly – they both work from the property daily, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the native forest they cherish.

We really enjoyed our stay it exceeded our expectations. Very well designed around the nature, quiet, peaceful and the hosts had thought about every detail. It’s clear a lot of effort and love has gone into the place. We especially loved the bath and fire pit area, perfect way to watch the sunset and relax. This place is one of the better stays we’ve had, highly recommended for a couple’s getaway to de-stress and slow down.

We were notified a few hours in advance to check our arrival time to make sure everything was ready for us. When we arrived, we found a lovely hand written note and some treats. We were just gobsmacked by the immaculate detail in the architecture, and the whakapapa provided in the guest handbook really added to the experience. Truly outstanding venue.

The experience was magic, super private, just the birds and us. Just a quick drive to shops and restaurants. The bath was magic after a long day of nothing. 100% recommend it.
