Braided Point

Braided Point

Canterbury

Braided Point is just 1.5 hours from Christchurch in the Canterbury region.

Nestled on a rocky outcrop formed by retreating glaciers and set on a high-country sheep and beef station, Braided Point offers majestic views in every direction. You’ll be treated to stunning vistas of the Rakaia River, stretching across the landscape. Facing west, enjoy mesmerising sunsets behind the Southern Alps, accompanied by the peaceful sounds of the flowing streams below.

The main pod provides a cosy living space that sleeps four, while the smaller pod contains a bathroom. A covered outdoor kitchen connects the two pods, offering a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.

Lounge in the comfy beanbags and unwind on the spacious deck, or immerse yourself in the wood-fired hot tub while soaking in the breathtaking views of the Alps.

From this elevated spot, you can also watch the local wildlife, including paradise shelducks, Canadian geese, hawks, fantails, and the endangered Wrybill and Black-fronted tern.

The ever-changing landscape, from shifting river channels to snow-capped peaks, makes each stay at Braided Point truly special.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Braided Point are Jess and Ross.

Jess, Ross and their children Will, Angus, and Evie returned to Jess' family farm in 2020, continuing a century-long legacy. Yearning for a rural upbringing for their children, they were drawn back to this special place nestled amidst mountains and rivers. The farm offers a unique lifestyle, allowing them to work the land, explore the nearby mountains and waterways, and raise their children with a sense of freedom. Inspired by their own travel experiences, they decided to share the beauty of their surroundings by creating a glamping pod overlooking the Rakaia River, offering guests a unique escape in a truly remarkable location.

Testimonials

As people who explore the high country almost every month, the view and raised position of Braided Point is simply stunning and mesmerising. Every time you look out at the view, it changes in the light. Simply stunning. The cabin itself is fantastic, with that view to die for. Super warm, with an incredibly comfortable bed and pillows, a must-have for sure. The hot tub acts like one of those disappearing pools, blending into the river view. You can’t help but feel yourself doing a control-alt-delete from the world outside your view.
