Tuateawa Coastal Retreat

Tuateawa Coastal Retreat

Coromandel

Tuateawa Coastal Retreat is situated on Coromandel Peninsula, a scenic 3-hour drive from Auckland or Hamilton and 40 minutes from Coromandel Town.

This sunny coastal haven is nestled in nature with 180° views of the ocean, the bay, and beyond.

Perfect for family or group stays, the accommodation has multiple lounges and living spaces that offer a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Each room opens onto a deck fringed by native bush, connecting you to nature from every angle. The main bedroom features a king bed with bi-fold doors opening to a view of the ocean. The second bedroom includes a queen bed and a king single. The heart of the home is where you'll find a fully equipped kitchen, a cosy lounge, and a small rimu dining table.

The deck extends the entertainment with multiple platforms for relaxing or dining, including a BBQ area, comfy deck chairs, and an outdoor table. The melodic symphony of native birdsong from kākā, kēruru, tui, and ruru adds to the magic.

A 20-minute walk from the accommodation leads you down to a rocky shore – the perfect place for a peaceful picnic, fishing, or just sea gazing in an idyllic, unspoilt Pōhutukawa-fringed bay.

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Tuateawa Coastal Retreat are Linda and Geoff, and their twin children Alex and Leah.

The family has enjoyed spending time on this magical property for 40 years, beginning with Geoff's father, Colin, and his partner, Kit, the original hosts of Top Hut (the second smaller hut also on the same property). Colin and Kit purchased the land from friends, living in Top Hut for over two decades before building Tuateawa Coastal Retreat. Kit later introduced Top Hut as a Canopy Camping escape, and now, Linda and Geoff continue her legacy, caring for these two treasured retreats.

Linda and Geoff love the natural wonders of Tuateawa - the sparkling Hauraki waters, the lush native bush, and the ancient pōhutukawa, pūriri, and nīkau palms that surround Top Hut. Walking tracks wind through towering trees, leading to rocky shores and crystal-clear pools filled with vibrant marine life, making it a place they truly cherish.

Top Hut and Tuateawa Coastal Retreat are more than just places to stay. They are both a sanctuary connecting people to nature, bringing peace and renewal, just as Kit envisioned when she first started welcoming guests.
