Northlanding River Bothy

Northlanding River Bothy

Mangonui, Northland

The River Bothy at Northlanding is set in the Far North, approximately 4 hours from Auckland and just 5 minutes from nearby Mangonui Village.

Nestled amongst 500 Olive trees, the bothy is far from the basic Scottish hut it’s named for. The little off-grid hut is simply, but beautifully decorated – with all the comforts of home at hand. A little bathroom hut with piping hot water, and an outdoor kitchen are just a few steps away.

Peaceful views of the surrounding countryside leave you feeling instantly rested. An outdoor bath is perfectly positioned to enjoy the sight of the river meandering gently past.

If you want to get out and about – the scenic Northland area offers lots to see and do.

At the end of your day, let nature be your companion. Soak up the views over the olive grove, watch dusk settle across the water, and relax by the brazier under the stunning night sky.

    Your Hosts

Maggie and Brooke are the owners of Northlanding. They’ll be your hosts during your stay.

Maggie originated from bonny Scotland and Brooke from the Hawke's Bay.

In 2016, after an accumulated 32 years working at Auckland zoo, Maggie and Brooke decided to begin a new chapter in their lives with the goal to build a sustainable lifestyle.  They purchased Northlanding, a river front olive grove in the far north of New Zealand.

Northlanding is located on the banks of the Oruaiti River and is surrounded by stunning countryside. The 500 mature olive trees on the property are harvested annually producing ‘Shaken down’, their own brand of delicious olive oil.

Maggie and Brooke have recently completed building their off-grid home ‘The River House’, and their guest accommodation ‘The River Bothy’. They want to encourage guests to come for a visit, unplug from the rush, re-connect, and experience the beauty of Northlanding and the magic of the Far North.
