Ringa Kaha Cabin

Ringa Kaha Cabin

Central Plateau

Ringa Kaha Cabin is set in Raurimu, a small settlement just 5 minutes North of National Park Village on the Central Plateau in the North Island.

The cabin is the epitome of rustic, off-grid luxury. A large wood burner, leather seating, furs and timber-lined walls give the interior a cosy and 'ski lodge-y' feel. Carefully thought-out, the one-bedroom cabin cleverly sleeps up to six, with a mezzanine floor and fold-down murphy bed.

Sitting high on the top of a hill, vast views over bush and farmland stretch out for miles from the large bifold doors.

Just 15 minutes from the Whakapapa Village - this is a fantastic winter stay for skiers, or equally lovely for those just looking for a cosy winter escape... In summer, the options are endless - walking in the National Park (the Tongarario Crossing handy), Mountain Biking the many trails in the area - or even canoeing the Whanganui River... Or just take a few days to just breathe, take in the incredible night sky, the views and the off-grid peace and absolute quiet. Dreamy.

  • Things to do

Relax at the cabin in the hot tub...or with Mt Ruapehu and the National Park on your doorstep - there's no shortage of things to do in the area!

It’s a 15-minute drive from the cabin to Whakapapa Village, where you’ll find the iconic Chateau Tongariro Hotel and the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre. From there, it’s a short drive up the mountain to the Whakapapa Skifield where you can ski during the winter and take the Sky Waka Gondola up year-round for sightseeing.

For keen walkers, the cabin is perfectly located for the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing one-day trek. A shuttle service from National Park can get you to and from the Crossing.

There are great mountain biking tracks for all levels in the area, including Fishers Track, 42nd Traverse and Old Coach Road. Bikes and shuttles can be organised through My Kiwi Adventure at National Park Village.

The Whanganui River Journey is classified as one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. If you follow Kaitieke Road (where Ringa Kaha Cabin is located) right to the end, you'll get to the launch point for the 3-day Whanganui River Journey. You can hire your own canoe or guided options are available with several different adventure operators.

National Park Village itself has restaurants, bars and activities on offer -  Mini Golf and Indoor Rock Climbing - great for rainy day fun!

  • Your Hosts

Your hosts at Ringa Kaha Cabin are Maree and Phil.

Twenty years ago, Maree and Phil bought their first holiday home in Raurimu, captivated by the area's fantastic skiing and abundant outdoor activities. When Ringa Kaha Cabin came up for sale recently, they just knew the stunning property was meant to be theirs too. Maree and Phil are excited to spend with their children in this beautiful area and share it with their guests through Ringa Kaha Cabin.

  • "

We absolutely loved our stay. It was a great experience for six women who needed a break from the city setting. Remote, beautiful, quiet (apart from us laughing all day and night), and a very well-thought-out setup. We recommend it to all and will definitely have to come back. Thank you to our lovely host, Sienna. We were in awe of the entire house and location. Thank you from six very well-rested and recharged mums!

This was the perfect setting for our family escape. We have three small children, and they all loved it, especially our "make your own pizza" lunches.

This cabin had everything we wanted for our stay. It was perfectly located with a beautiful view, and it was clean and warm. The fact that it suited both children and dogs was the main reason we booked.

We absolutely loved Ringa Kaha Cabin. We specifically look for spots where we have privacy and can switch off entirely for just a few days. Ringa Kaha provided just that, and we were truly able to relax and recharge! Thank you so much for having us!
