  • your hosts

Your hosts at The Unwind are Bill, Justine, and their son, Aiden.

The family have been living on their beautiful 2-acre property for the past 4 years. They always dreamed of building their own home, but had given up hope of finding somewhere 'magic' in their price range. Then, they found this land...with the sound of the nearby river, the views and the peacefulness - they knew they'd found their place.

Bill is an Engineer and Justine is a Data Management Specialist and Social Media Content Creator. With a passion for unique accommodation, the couple embarked on designing and building their own special cabin. Designed for guests to rest and rejuvenate, Justine felt 'The Unwind' was the perfect descriptive name for this little slice of heaven.

The Unwind provides a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet it’s not too far from the city, allowing you to still take advantage of local eateries, the beautiful coastal walkway, gardens, and parks. The setting is idyllic, with private access to a river, and the accommodation itself is luxurious, featuring a woodburner to keep you warm in the winter and an outside bath on the deck to soak in beneath the stars. So many thoughtful touches, including fresh bread and eggs on your arrival! Can't recommend it enough and will be returning again soon!

We enjoyed a lovely, relaxing break and loved arriving to freshly baked bread and fresh eggs for breakfast. The only downside was that we booked for two nights instead of more!

Amazing, relaxing, romantic atmosphere. Quiet and private. Stargazing in the stone tub was divine, and I loved seeing the wild rabbits in the morning around the cabin. Highly recommend.

This is an amazing location and cottage. The unit is very clean and has great amenities. The view of the mountain lives up to the pictures and more. The platform down by the stream is very relaxing. Having the sheep right there really completes the NZ experience!
