4 of Our Newest Romantic Glamping Escapes

26 July 2026 - 6 minute read time

We're always on the lookout for escapes that stop us in our tracks — places with a view that makes you reach for your camera before you've even put your bag down, or a wood burner that makes you want to stay an extra night just because.

These four escapes have just joined the Canopy Camping collection, and each one is exactly that. From the Taranaki hills above New Plymouth to the remote farmland of Otago, here are four new romantic glamping stays worth knowing about.

1. The Elevated Rest: New Plymouth, Taranaki

View The Elevated Rest →

Why we love it: A beautifully considered romantic retreat in the Taranaki hills, with sweeping views of Mount Taranaki and the coast, a stone outdoor bath, a Roaring Meg wood fire, and e-bikes to explore — dogs welcome too.

Tucked into the rolling farmland hills just 15 minutes from New Plymouth, The Elevated Rest is one of the most thoughtfully designed new escapes in our collection. Every detail inside has been considered — deep olive tones, rich brown walls, brass touches, sheepskin throws, a marble kitchen, and a plush velvet couch beneath a large window that frames the view from the lounge.

In the bedroom, earthy tones and 100% linen and bamboo sheets create a calm, luxurious space. Outside, a stone outdoor bath and brazier set the scene for slowing down as the changing Taranaki sky puts on its show. Mount Taranaki, Paritutu Rock, and the Sugar Loaf Islands are all visible from the property, and e-bikes are provided for exploring the farm track. Dogs are welcome.

Hosts Natasha and Brenden have owned this 360-degree-view property for 15 years, and their warmth and attention to detail are felt in every corner.

2. The Acres: Retaruke, Manawatū-Whanganui

View The Acres →

Why we love it: Two beautifully connected cabins deep in the Manawatū farmland with a wood-fired hot tub, Mt Ruapehu views, the Retaruke River below, and a stillness that makes you feel genuinely far from the world.

Tucked deep into 28 hectares of Retaruke farmland, The Acres is a retreat where the only sounds are birdsong, the crackle of a brazier, and the Retaruke River winding through the valley below. Two cabins sit side by side on a covered deck — one a sleeping space with an ensuite, the other a full kitchen, dining area, and cosy lounge nook — giving you everything you need and nothing you don't.

From the deck, Mount Ruapehu appears on the horizon on a clear day, and native bush frames the edges. The wood-fired hot tub is the centrepiece of the outdoor space, perfectly positioned for a long, unhurried evening soak. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Whakapapa ski fields, and the Whanganui River are all within reach for days you want to venture out. Dogs are welcome.

Hosts Carly and Ryan have farmed the Retaruke region for over 30 years, and their love of this quiet corner of New Zealand is evident in every detail.

3. Tōtaranui Retreat: Puhi Puhi, North Canterbury

View Tōtaranui Retreat →

Why we love it: A lone ridge-top cabin in the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges with sea views, tōtara-crafted interiors milled right on the farm, a wood-fired hot tub, and skies completely free of light pollution.

Perched high in the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges, Tōtaranui Retreat sits alone on a ridge with the sea shimmering on the horizon and native bush tumbling down the hillside below. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame an uninterrupted panorama of rugged mountains and rolling farmland, while the benchtops throughout have been crafted from tōtara milled right there on the farm — a detail that speaks to the care and character woven into every part of this escape.

In the evenings, gather around the outdoor brazier with a drink as the sky turns, then ease into the wood-fired hot tub beneath skies completely free of light pollution. One of the most dramatic and romantic settings in the South Island.

From NZ$470/pn | Sleeps 2 | Adults only | 50 mins from Kaikoura, 3.5hrs from Christchurch

4. Hudson's Hut: Wairuna, Otago

View Hudson's Hut →

Why we love it: A beautiful floor-to-ceiling glass hut perched above rolling Otago farmland, with golden light at either end of the day, a wood-fired hot tub under the stars, and a hilltop bush track to walk off the edges.

Perched above rolling farmland in Wairuna, Otago, Hudson's Hut opens up to golden light at either end of the day, with floor-to-ceiling glass drawing the view straight into the open living, kitchen, and bedroom space. A gas log fire keeps things cosy inside, while outside the wood-fired hot tub is perfectly placed for star-filled evenings as the farmland stretches out below.

A scenic 20-minute hilltop bush walk from the hut rewards with epic views across the property, and nearby attractions include the Catlins Forest Park, the Waipahi Wetland boardwalk, and trout fishing spots close by. An ideal stop for those travelling between Te Anau or Central Otago and the Catlins coastline.

Hosts Andy and Emilee have called this property home for over a decade, and named the hut after their son Hudson — a family whose warmth and resilience shine through in everything they've created here.

From NZ$330/pn | Sleeps 2 | Adults only | 1hr from Invercargill, 1.5hrs from Dunedin
