Waikino

Hidden Springs is 1 hour and 45 minutes from Central Auckland, 1 hour from Tauranga, and just a 5-minute drive to the town of Waikino.

The cabin is nestled into a 90-ha organic farm, surrounded by native bush, and flanked by two natural springs.

Private and peaceful, the cabin is perfect for couples. A tranquil bedroom contains a king-size bed with large windows out to the views. A stylish kitchen and lounging area and deluxe bathroom complete the interior. Large bi-fold doors open onto a spacious deck - where you can soak up the sunshine and stunning views of Mt Karangahake. Hidden Springs is a place to leave your urban life behind. Listen to the tuis from the surrounding trees and the calming sound of the babbling brooks, fed from the natural springs. Relax in the hammock amongst the ferns, or mediate at the tranquil seat found in the ferny resting spot. If you're keen to explore the region, head out to visit the beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and nature walks.

  • things to do

With springs, streams, gorgeous native bush to explore and amazing views of Mt Karangehake...you may find you don't want to leave the property! Toast marshmallows by the campfire, soak in the outdoor bath, swing gently in the hammock - or bring out the board games!

If you feel like going for a walk, you can drive 5 minutes to Owharoa Falls or Dickey FlatKarangahake Gorge 10 minutes away (famous for its historic tunnel), or Orokawa Bay bush walk only 30 minutes away.

For keen bikers, try the Hauraki Rail Trail from the Waitawheta Road entry point.

A visit to Waihi Beach or beautiful Whititoa Beach is a great picnic outing on a sunny day!

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Hidden Springs are Tania and Malcolm – and their cat Scamper.

Tania and Malcolm have owned their 90-hectare property since 2020. After kiwifruit and avocado farming for some years, the couple were looking for a change of pace and when they came across this beautiful property - they took the plunge.

The property was very run down when they bought it, requiring weeds like gorse and woolly nightshade to be cleared to make way for over 7,000 newly planted native trees. The trees are all managed organically by the couple who feel good to know that when they leave this world, they will leave a legacy of amazing trees for future generations and the wildlife in the area.

This property has a lot of 'mining' history, with an abandoned stamping battery, and other mining relics. It was also part of the historical pathway for the Māori from the Waikato to the Bay of Plenty.

Tania and Malcolm felt that glamping was a great way to share their property with others, and a big part of their sustainable partnership with the land. For every stay at their cabin, they are committing to planting another native tree.

Tania and Malcolm feel blessed to be guardians of this special place - and look forward to you sharing it with you.
